Will American travelers be able to fly from Thailand to France on July 1st?

Here’s a question about July 1st from the other perspective:

Is anyone here a French national? Si oui, what is your understanding of the lift of the international travel ban to France from non-EU countries as of July 1st?

Do you believe an American who has been in Thailand since February will be able to fly with me to France on July 1st?

For me, logically, the answer is yes, since if it was announced that international travel will be open on July 1st from non-EU countries which are not in a state of epidemic, it shouldn’t matter the person’s nationality. Neither should it matter whether anyone needs to ”give enough time for Thai airport authorities to understand and apply our rules”. (eye roll..)

However, the Visa service of the French Embassy of Thailand is advising me not to travel before mid-July for this reason. What date in mid-July? who knows!.. I can’t keep going on changing travel dates, hotels, trains, etc. and plans for an arrival.. When I asked Visa Services about whether they were suggesting that my American friend would not be able to board the flight to France on July 1st, they replied Yes, that not only Thai authorities but the flight company agents would not allow American friend to take a flight on July 1st.

What is your take on what will really happen at the airport for us on July 1st? I feel that I need to make provisions for having to come back to the hotel upon being denied boarding.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired whether an American friend could accompany them to France on July 1st, following the announcement of lifted travel bans for non-EU countries. Although the logical response seemed positive given the travel ban's end, the French Embassy in Thailand recommended delaying travel until mid-July due to uncertainties regarding flight restrictions. Various commenters suggested reaching out to the airline for clarity and highlighted the dynamic situation of international travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic, noting potential obstacles such as airline and airport regulations that may affect boarding.

The other point to note is that airlines may still be reluctant to resume their operations as soon as Thai airspace reopens, if too many health/logistic restrictions at origin, final and layover destinations make it unprofitable...

I think this is just thaivisa's take on this article from bkk post.

French national here...

I believe that the answer of the French consulate is also based on the fact that despite all the announcements made here and there about international flights to EU for non EU citizens, it is STILL a day by day situation and not all the rules/criteria and such are fixed for sure...

I know that after already so many months being stuck or unsure it sucks to still not being able to know what to do, when to travel, in which conditions, etc.

But I would suggest as the consulate to wait and see...

Too soon now to make a real concrete plan even if July is just 2 weeks ahead.
Dav *****
Mmm if you don't want to wait for better/clearer information about possible direct flights from Thailand to France after July 1st, then yes that might do the trick to start planning now...

These are not official sources but coming from a visa agency

1.

Flights from Iceland to France should be allowed already from June 15 (as flight from EU to Iceland).

2. Without much details given, it reports that one American (coming from EU) was not allowed to enter Iceland.

I’m weighing the options of a one-way flight to Iceland, then take a new flight Iceland to France. Norway may be another option but that country is not yet open internationally like Iceland. One advantage of Iceland is that you get a free Covid test as alternative to a 14-day quarantine.

thaiger news, I’m in America and keep close tabs, I have a fiancée in Thailand . It is now September. America will be one of the last allowed in. Constantly changing. All details not announced, but probably a 14 day quarantine to get in or back in.
Veronique **********
@Edna ******
oh thank you Edna so September you mean to get in and out of Thailand ?did you see any news for the French people ?
Edna *******
@Veronique *********
Yes mentioned, but I didn’t pay much attention since I’m more interested in America. Originally it was going to be those with work permits and Thai nationals stranded in other countries and those that live there with families. They are probably going to enforce the 14 day thing, although that hasn’t been announced. Changes daily . Follow the Thieger news in English .

Have you spoken to the airline ? It is their people at the boarding gate that will decide if the person will board or not.

me too I was booked for June 12. I got a travel credit for now.

Problem is not about getting to MTL but how to get back into Thailand before winter.

Passenger container shipping cruise? e.g. Some cargo shipping lines have a limited amount of cabins upon which you can join the crew as the container shipping goes about it’s global route—prices are cheap and you get to see the world. Maybe one of the shipping lines stops at a port in Thailand.

that’s my next step, surprisingly, Qatar Airways now offers free exchange and refund up to 3 years! I hope this will be a new competitive advantage among airlines and that this is the start of a trend. Swiss Air also has a lucrative exchange program..

exactly i was suppose to go back to Montreal Canada 🇨🇦 on June 15 I called Qatar to change my flight because I want to stay here they told me no problem just call us 3 days before you want to go back to Canada 🇨🇦 we will reschedule your ticket
Michael ********
Why dont you try and get a letter from French embassy. Staff at airport may not think so logically and just look at passport.
Yin ********
I knew someone fly from BKK to Amsterdam on 9th.May. She has Netherland passport .

let me know if you hear of any (French) friends who either directly made bookings with flights, and received a PNR code which means the flight is definitely going to happen, or they know someone who did, for July 1st.
Vincent ********
I have only heard that some flights are cancelled because airplanes company don’t want to come empty at Bangkok airport ( no entry possible ) but I am alone here with people who are living in Thailand. I don’t know if you have that on your site embassy but on my embassy (Belgian one) they inform us about the possibilitiesof flight to go back to Brussels airport. Maybe on the site of French embassy you have the same ?
