Why was my DTV visa rejected in Tel Aviv despite completing a culinary course?

DTV REJECTED in Tel Aviv

Reason: Thai culinary course is not enough for DTV. They suggested a 3 months ED visa instead

I told them this course is qualified and I have all the documents required. They told me I'm correct but they can still refuse the visa based on their discretion.

Where should I apply instead?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user experienced a rejection of their DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) application at the Thai embassy in Tel Aviv, despite presenting valid documents for a culinary course. The embassy suggested a 3-month Education Visa (ED) as an alternative, citing the discretion to deny the DTV visa. Comments from the community reflect confusion over the rejection, questioning whether the short duration of the culinary course impacted the decision, and offering experiences of applying at other embassies like London and Taipei.

Maybe the signs of realising the 5 year visa does not fit short term soft power!

You obviously don’t need a 5 year visa to learn Thai cuisine, just apply for a visa you actually need.

it's a way to get a 5 year Visa

@James *******
I understand. But a ED visa will do just fine that’s why he was denied.

he applied to a Thai Embassy or Consulate which had no prior reports of success in obtaining the DTV visa. That was a mistake IMHO.

do you mean any consulate? It must be apply just in Embassy?

@Kelly *******
any Thai Embassy or Consulate... But be sure to read the requirements for the Thai DTV Visa you on their websites.

Some cooking classes, language classes or Muay Thai have absolutely nothing to do with the dtv

Can you re-apply in Tel Aviv?

Big mistake thinking a 3 month soft power course is gonna fly with an embassy halfway across the globe.

I'm just curious. What after your culinary course? I guess their point is "your cooking class is 3 months or so, why would we give you 5 years?"

I've seen some people got their visa with a single medical appointment (congrats and good for them) but that doesn't make much sense to be fair

I think they realized their mistake and tightening it up now!
Stefan ********
I think so, cause I saw many people got it at the beginning and now more and more people are getting rejected.

I'm curious how the renewals will be for these people. I mean, unless you have an extended course at a school or doctors appointments...you don't really have a valid reason for staying from an immigration point of view?

They gave me hard time in Tel Aviv beginning of August although I had all documents as a remote worker. I ended doing it in Taipei which was a much better experience.

I was considering Taipei too. Thank you

Anonymous participant should have gone to Taipei.

It’s funny that you tried to argue with them. Hopefully they didn’t leave a note on your record in their system.

Something doesn't match... they don't refuse without valid reason. They can, that's correct, but that doesn't happen. Same as the IO at arrival... he can deny entry, even if you have a valid visa, but also that is just the theorie.

You say that your cooking class is qualified, the Embassy say that this is correct, but at the same time they reject your application and they want to give you an ED-Visa instead? Doesn't make sense somehow... some small detail is probably missing here...🙄🤔

@Stephan **********
maybe because his cooking course is so short, they won't issue a 5 year DTV?
Stephan ***********
@Dave *********
Yeah... something like that... somehow this is not the complete story.
Wannikea *********
@Stephan **********
small detail is 3+ more months of a course
Stephan ***********
@Wannikea ********
"not enough, qualified, correct, refused" What now? Makes no sense, somehow.

I too wonder how long this cooking course is? 2 days for Pad Thai and Som Tam? Well... at other places people get a DTV for an dentist appointment... but...

Never discuss with a Thai civil servant, it will only bring you in deeper trouble.
Deepak *******
Embassies and immigration have absolute authority to deny visa or entry.
Henrik *****
Even the single officer has the power to reject.
