TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the eligibility of a Danish citizen, who works 14 days offshore in the EU and spends 14 days in Thailand, for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV). The initial response highlights that DTV is typically for individuals working remotely from Thailand. However, several commenters argue that having an employment contract with a foreign entity and meeting financial thresholds could also qualify for a DTV, suggesting it is not strictly limited to remote work conducted while physically present in Thailand. Various types of visas and requirements are suggested, including potential considerations for a Thailand Elite visa or other long-term residence options.
Wow there seems to be a lot of misinformation on this post, even from so called moderators. If you have an employment contract with an overseas company and meet the financial thresholds, you will indeed be able to obtain a DTV. There is nothing to say you HAVE to work remotely in Thailand. All the information you require is on the 'official' Thai embassy website. I got mine 18 months ago and it was pretty straightforward, good luck 👍
Heine Bermann, I believe it can be possible FIFO, fly in, fly out and can show some remote work during off period. DTV "Workation" Route (Remote Worker)
If you work for an overseas company (non-Thai entity) and can perform duties remotely during your "off" period while in Thailand, this is the best route.
Requirements: A letter from your employer/HR allowing remote work, an employment contract, and bank statements showing a 500,000 THB balance.
On/Off Specifics: You must show that even if you are on a 4-on/4-off schedule, you are still employed by a foreign entity and your income is foreign-sourced.
Letter Content: The HR letter should ideally state you are permitted to work remotely from Thailand for the designated period.
If above not possible Soft power route as suggested. Did meet a guy in Phuket doing the ED visa learning Thai and also was in the oil industry working on and off. Good Luck
From what I’ve seen, DTV isn’t strictly limited to working inside Thailand. It’s more about remote income and meeting the requirements. Seems like approvals can vary case by case.
You certainly won't get one based on working outside of Thailand, the DTV Workation option is designed for people working remotely from inside Thailand. You might be able to apply by signing up to an approved soft power activity
Sorry , but working offshore is not working online in Thailand… if you read the regulations … it make it very clear..and what is against an 6 month Multiple Tourist ?
Steven Cameron thats interesting i never new you could get a DTV for thailand by working offshore. When you got your DTV sis you focus on.working remotely within thailand? Because everything i read was about being able to do your job typically online from inside thailand, arh well you live and learn never heard this before but this is thailand!!
