Can I work remotely on an education visa in Thailand if I'm moving there soon?

Hi all

We have booked flights to Thailand on February 21. Family of four from Australia

. I am starting a remote sales job on March 3! I thought I could work remotely on the education visa… But I’ve just found out I can only do DTV!

Should I apply now and then to activate it fly out of thailand and come back in? What if I’m denied?

Does anyone work on the education Visa remotely?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about working remotely on an education visa (ED visa) after relocating to Thailand from Australia. They express concern over needing a different visa for remote work (DTV visa) and ask about the application process and potential issues such as denial. Comments from the community clarify that working remotely on an education visa is not allowed, and one must usually apply for the appropriate visa from outside Thailand. There is advice regarding the need for employment contracts and payslips to obtain a DTV visa and suggestions to consider rescheduling their trip.

While you didn't work for someone inside Thailand, you can do what you want. 🤷

You can't work on an ED visa either inside Thailand or remotely. You can't apply for a DTV inside Thailand and wherever you do apply you need to remain there until the visa is issued. You could try applying now but unless you have a watertight contract that allows you to work remotely from Thailand I suspect you will struggle to apply before starting work and being able to show payslips etc. I'd look at rescheduling your departure date

People work on the DL whilst on the EV. I applied for my DTV with a new contract but they wouldn't accept it as i hadn't been paid from it. Luckily I had 2 other contracts to get approved with.

You cannot apply before your remote employment starts, since you have to provide them the contract. Most embassies also asks for the latest payslip to make sure you actually are working for the company. You have to stay outside Thailand until you get the visa, or you risk it being cancelled because you broke the rules. If you cannot wait, apply for a soft power instead of workcation.
