Do I need to provide my physical passport for a 90-day immigration report in Thailand?

I have to file my first 90 day report after my last trip to Vietnam in August. My online filing was denied because it needs to be done in-person. I don't feel like going to the immigration office, so I reached out to a visa center who will do it. They are telling me they do not need my passport and they can do it by me sending in photos of my passport. Is this accurate? The last time I went through the Visa office, they needed to take my passport for a few days while they submitted my report.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the necessity of physically presenting their passport for a 90-day immigration report following their trip to Vietnam. They received conflicting information from a visa center, which claims that sending photos of the passport is sufficient. Comments from other users indicate that while it's usually not necessary to submit a physical passport for this report, it can often be completed quickly in person at the immigration office. There are also suggestions to avoid using services from agencies, which may charge fees, and instead take advantage of the free process.

Anonymous participant 180 I think you're confused, it might take 30 seconds to file a 90 day report in person once your queue number is called at the immigration office you use BUT getting there, getting a queue, waiting your turn, filing, then going back home can take people HOURS especially in an area with a LOT of long stay people (like bangkok) 🙂

most provinces have implemented walk-thru/drive thru. But you wouldn’t know that because you claim that 90 day reports aren’t even required 😂

Yes that’s correct

Your first time is anytime you return from an international trip and must be done in person at your local immigration office plus it’s free…it takes less than an hour…so why pay??

Agency’s can charge ฿1,500-฿3,000 for the service

If you never want to do a 90 day report just fly Out/In every <89 days for the next 5 years

Stop being lazy since it’s free to do

DTV_Begpacker I paid 500 Baht for the agency to do for me. I live in the country and I would spend much more money in transportation if I would go in person to the immigration. I do not regret. 🙂 Some Farangs spend 500 Bath in many others things. Why do not spend 500 with a good agency to do the work for you? Ps. I live in Isaan area, and most of the immigrations here are moving far from the downtown of the cities (Kalasin, Undon Thani, Khon Kaen....)

You are filing a 90 day report with a DTV visa? Are you supposed to do that? I just stayed 6 months with my DTV and left the country yesterday, never did a 90 day reporting and had no issues at all.

of course you have to do 90 days with DTV… you’ll be flagged when you try to get back in and big fine

Anonymous participant 180 of course they need to file but no there is no issue coming back in nor a big fine at that time. There is a fine if you need to do anything related to immigration office after the 90 days though.

Anonymous participant 180 dial back your paranoia and stop spreading mis-information 😮

The people at passport control when you stamp out/in to thailand don't care if you EVER filed a 90 day report or not because that's not their job

You will NEVER EVER get questioned about whether you filed a 90 day report or not stamping OUT of thailand

you are 100 % incorrect. I personally know at least a half dozen in my own circle that have been fined. You’re basically saying that there’s no point in doing a 90 day report which is ridiculous advice …

Anonymous participant 180 you can't be fined for failure to do a 90 day report at the airports <- that is NOT the job of the passport control officers

you can ONLY get fined for failure to file a 90 day report on time at the immigration office serving the area where you stay/live

How about posting a photo of the fine stamp from one of those "half dozen in my own circle" that have been fined..

ah, so you try the old motte and Bailey defense, and edited your ridiculous remark? no one ever said you get the fine when stamping in or out at passport control. The fine comes when immigration checks your previous stay.

And I have zero desire to go to the trouble of asking people for photos of their fine stamp just to prove something to a know nothing farang who likes to chime in with complete rubbish on social media just to argue.

correct, either at immigration office next time you report, or as happened last week with Canadian woman at CNX, when at immigration at the airport.

Maybe don’t talk about things you aren’t fully knowledgeable of?

Anonymous participant 180 I’ve never heard of anyone being asked any questions about tm47 or tm30 at the point of entry / departure. Is that Canadian woman info reliable? Do you know her personally? She could have been in trouble anyway, to be denied entry and then they decided to dig deeper

Are you sure about that? Friends of ours just returned to Thailand after spending 6 months here. They didn’t do a 90 day reporting as well and entered the country without problem.

he is right about having to do the 90 day report. Everyone that stays here for longer than 90 days has to file, irrespective of what visa you have. He is not right about having an issue coming back. You may get flagged eventually and the fine is currently 2000 THB. Best to ignore anonymous people.

again, you’re also spreading false info. Last week a DTV holder arriving to CNX from KL was taken out of immigration line and queried about DTV stay. She had stayed
***
months before flying out, and they asked if she did 90 day report. She had not, and they referred her to the airport immigration office where she had to pay the fine.

You people are speaking about things which you ASSUME based on your own experience, unaware of how much has shifted in recent months.

Anonymous participant 180 and you sir, are taking isolated examples and presenting them as if they are a factual representation of what is going to happen. It's laughable and a bit pathetic. I know 2 people that failed to do the 90 day report and came back with no issues. One had a problem (fine and a telling off) when they eventually went to immigration. The other still hasn't paid the fine. No one is going to take you seriously Mr anonymous....

They don't need your physical passport, just the info that's in it, so a picture would be fine. It's all in the system and takes them about 1 minute to complete.
