Why did I receive a TR Visa instead of a DTV Visa for my training in Thailand?

Hello!

I applied for a DTV VISA but I got a TR VISA for 6 months. I don't know why?

Is there someone like me?

And do I need to leave after 2 months or can extend in Thailand ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) applied for a DTV Visa for training but instead received a TR Visa valid for 6 months. This situation often arises when applications are considered insufficient, potentially due to not meeting the required duration of training. There are discussions among commenters suggesting that the OP may need to leave Thailand after 2 months but can extend the visa while in the country at an Immigration Office (IO). It's also mentioned that a TR Visa can be a suitable alternative for shorter stays or certain training programs.

I have seen some get it. It's METV and it's valid 6 months from the day you get it, and every time you enter Thailand you get 60 days which you can extend 30 days. I had that visa once, it gave me almost 9 months in Thailand with visa runs.

It can happen if they consider your initial application insufficient for a DTV. That’s a fairer solution than being denied and losing your money.

I was thinking of applying for a DTV as planning 4 months Muay Thai training. Is a TR visa a better option?

Which consulate are you thinking of applying through? Also, it is recommended that you do nothing less than 6 months.

A. Nony Mous Thank you for your advice. I will apply from UK but it seems DTV is not best suited to my circumstances 🤷‍♀️

if u have no intentions to live in Thailand for a long term in the near future, you could just come in without any visa. U do 60 days, una border bounce and 60 more days. You can eventually extend both 60days up to 90 if you pay 1900baht at the immigration.

which I think is fair enough in the eyes of the person issuing the visas

Sorry to hear that. It happened a few times, I guess the embassy decided TR will be more suitable for you maybe?

Yes, it has happened a few times. What embassy? Was it soft power? If so, how long was the training/course?

not necessarily. I mean, if the OP is from a country elegible for the visa waiver, then yes, total waste. But if he/she isn't, then 10,000 bahth for six months is not that bad.

As reference, each visa on arrival (for those from countries not elegible for the visa exemption scheme) entry is around USD 60 and it's valid for 15 days only.

Yes, you'll have to wait until the visa expires to reapply.

Probably because embassy think 6 months is enough for you.

You probably register for 6 months soft power, they give you visa to do that.

Yes others have got the same. It is often given for not showing sufficient evidence to be awarded the DTV..e.g 1 -6 month course. You can extend at an IO.
