I just got to know of a cooking school which is asking for a deposit to issue a letter for DTV visa , but this course is for 2/3 weeks. I am super confused.. why would one get a DTV for a 3 week course? When this can be done on a regular visa exemption period of 60 days or so? Or on an Ed visa?Anyone else who got a DTV visa for such a short course in Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the validity and necessity of obtaining a DTV (Digital Thailand Visa) for a short cooking course of 2-3 weeks. Users express confusion over why someone would choose a DTV when a regular visa exemption of 60 days or an Education (Ed) visa could suffice for such a short duration. Comments include personal experiences with other types of visas, requirements for the course, and advice about the DTV process, highlighting that some schools successfully issue the necessary documentation for a DTV despite the short course length.

I think the worrying thing is probably whilst you will be granted a five-year visa when you exit the country and try to get back in let’s say in two years from now or whenever, I don’t think a letter or proof of income from two years ago would possibly still be valid so they may require further documents and further checks moving forward. Of course, they won’t say this until everyone is in the club, Then they can move the goalposts, so it’s worth thinking forwards, and possibly looking towards getting fully digital nomad papers.

You can still get a five year multiple entry visa. I visited a cooking school yesterday, paid for classes, got the paperwork needed for the DTV and will be applying in Laos on September 10th. The cooking school I used here in Bangkok said they already had four other students get the DTV with their classes.

They won't reject you as long as you proved that you have money in the bank (the 500K requirement). They want the money and expertise to come into Thailand.

How much is course ? Another applicant enquired about similar course and was told by Consulate that the culinary school must be registered with the government... Not just any old school . And , duration of course was unimportant so long as the receipt indicated that you are accepted for the course and that you have paid up. HCMC Vietnam was the consulate who replied the applicant.

how much are they asking for the course?

Some people want to stay more than 60-90 days.

I paid for 20 classes for Muay Thai. I haven't seen a DTV using cooking classes in the Facebook group yet.
