What should I know about the differences between the 60-day tourist visa (TR) and the 90-day special tourist visa (STV) for Thailand?

I've submitted an application for tourist visa, expecting 90day STV, I've just received notification, issued 60day TR, London Embassy.

Any advice appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user initially applied for a 90-day Special Tourist Visa (STV) but received a 60-day Tourist Visa (TR) instead. The community advised that the 60-day TR visa is more flexible than the STV, as it does not require insurance for extensions, does not necessitate prebooked accommodation, and can be converted to other visa types. The STV, on the other hand, is heavy on requirements. Some users also shared their experiences regarding visa processing times at various embassies.

Sounds like you applied for the wrong visa, lol.

You do know the STV is the most ridiculous requirement heavy visa? Did you plan on staying the full 270 days on it?
Anton *******
thats what i got also 60 days…..wanted 90!
Wannikea *********
@Anton ******
you can extend once for 30 days in country

How long did it take to get from when u sent it in? I'm waiting for mine Thailand Embassy in Canada said 10 to 15 business days before I'll get a answer

@Brian ********
London is a nightmare from my observations, coupled with that the evisa system was down for 5 days or so and just got back up, I'm sure they are only processing urgent upcoming priority travel dates first.

@Wannikea ********
not that I don't like the wait time just wondering how other countries times are. An I'm going for the 60 day
Wannikea *********
@Brian ********
we know the reason you asked is you don't like the wait. When do you plan on flying? What kind of visa? He didn't even get the visa he wanted.
Brian *********
@Wannikea ********
did u read what I said . His turn around time in the country he applied in . Ur just nit picking!
Wannikea *********
@Brian ********
you answered your own question from the horses mouth.

@Wannikea ********
I'm not hijacking as u say . I asked how long it took him to get his. Wtf . Yes different countries was wondering turn around time there
Wannikea *********
@Brian ********
don't hijack threads, Cdn embassy and UK embassy aren't the same.
Isaac ******
60 day better
Rei ***********
60days is better, renew your visa later
Wannikea *********
@Tito ****
visas don't get renewed. He's eligible for a single 30 day extension on a TR60 visa.

The TR60 is a much more flexible visa than the STV. Doesn't require insurance for extension, no prebooked accommodation, and can change to other visas. STV, needs full insurance for total trip, prebooked accom, can't convert it to anything else. STV is only good if you want longer than 90 days and will go home straight after, ie not need to convert it

Jay Storey. Stay on the phone, but while you're waiting you might try sending a message through their Facebook page. I've heard people have more success that way, so either way you've nothing to lose

UK, I've been in phone queue approx 1hour

Jay Storey. In that case the error might be at the embassy, so if definitely be contacting them. Where are you?

@Bobby *******
I've submitted everything needed for the STV, insurance, accommodation etc
Bobby ********
Jay Storey. I don't think you can, as you now have a "live" visa, and you cannot apply for another whilst you already have one. I mean you can try but I don't know if you'll have success. You might need to contact your embassy and see if it can be changed. The criteria for STV is different than that of TR so it might not be easy

Tbh, I dont remember, if I have to resubmit then would it immediately invalidate the 60day that's been issued?

Jay Storey. There is an option for STV

@Jay *******
yes its stay no longer than 90 days in the drop down box (STV). You have a tourist visa.

I'm currently caller 27 in the queue.

I was wondering if there was something I'd done wrong in the application, I used the evisa website, there was no option for STV, is there a separate application process for STV?
