Hi,

I would like to know where can I get an MTV visa for 6 months and how much it cost?

In addition, I want to know how many times can I get it in a year if I can do it every year and if not for how many years?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a Multi Entry Tourist Visa (MTV) for 6 months, you typically need to apply at a Thai embassy in your home country. The cost of the visa can vary depending on the embassy, and it's important to check their official website for the exact fees. Generally, acquiring multiple MTVs within a year can be challenging; most embassies may not allow two consecutive MTVs after a long stay in Thailand, and they often reject applications based on your visa history. It’s advisable to check with the embassy for specific guidance and to explore alternative visa options if needed.

The problem with trying to game the visa system, is that sometimes you lose. Losing may involve being denied entry and being forced to purchase a return ticket on the spot. Then you get held in an immigration detention center at the airport until that flight departs. The best bet is to get the visa that is most appropriate for your stay and don't leave your fate to the whims of every immigration officer that you encounter. If the METV is the right visa, then check with your home embassy. Otherwise, you my want to look in to one of the other visas suggested above, or the Thai Elite if none of those apply. Good luck.

For the most part, you can only get a Multi Entry Tourist Visa from the Thai embassy in your home country. Often embassies will not sell this visa to people that are not at least residents of the country they are applying in.

I highly doubt you'd even be able to buy 2 of these in a row. A tourist visa is not for living in Thailand and the embassy will see your history in Thailand and refuse to sell you another one after you've been in Thailand for 6-9 straight months.

You should be asking the embassy or consulate where you will apply, it's their call. I'd say for a single entry you might be ok, but it would be your last for a while

So you're saying it's not an option to get it twice a year right? but what about 3 months tourist visa + 6 months METV? can I do that? Regarding 3 months visa, I thought I can do several times tourist visa in a year: twice a year but not in a row meaning I will have to go to Laos/Malaysia/Vietnam/etc.

@Yaron ********
sounds like you need a long term visa, retirement, marriage or similar with multiple rentries.

passport control is going to start asking you why you're spending so much time in Thailand with the improper visa no matter how many times an embassy will sell you one.

So the best option is 6 months visa METV and then what?

You can't remain in Thailand for a year on a tourist visa. Get an ED visa and learn the language or Muay Thai. If you want to stay long-term, get a long-term visa. Simple enough

Can I get 6 months METV visa if I already stayed 6 months in Thailand (not in a row)? I think it's possible. Regarding ED visa, it's expensive especially that I need to go back home every 3 months and it's not Multi Entry.

contact the Thai embassy in your country they’ll tell you what you can get

go home or get a job or get married to a Thai or have a Thai kid. You could probably do ED for a year after METV

So I see METV is the best visa for now but it's either Tourist visa or METV right?

if you can get an METV do it. You can get 9 months out of it if you exit and enter right before it expires. It's just not always an easy visa to get.
