TLDR : Answer Summary
Many expats suggest that Vietnam, particularly the embassy in Hanoi and the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, offers the easiest and fastest process for applying for a DTV visa. Some also mention Laos and Indonesia as potential alternatives, while there is a request for information on the requirements and eligibility for the DTV visa.

there are different categories of DTV's: 1) "Workcation" - for remote work, freelancers, digital nomads. Meaning you need to have your own business (and paperwork, portfolio, invoices, proof of tax payments etc) or be employed by a company outside Thailand, that confirms that you are allowed to work remotely etc. All work done while on workcation can not be Thai related, have Thai customers etc. 2) "Soft Power" - for things like attending longer courses (min. 6 month), related go Thai culture such as Muay Thai and Thai cooking. Soft power is also for Medical treatment over a longer period (needs appointments and treatment plan from hospital/clinic). It's also for attending some other cultural events - never seen anyone apply for those, but music festivals are mentioned in the initial visa information. 3) for dependants to a DTV-holder. For 1 and 2, I believe there's a minimum age of 20y and the applicant needs proof of having 500k in a personal bank account (not thai account). And the application fee is around 10k thb (varies depending on embassy/consulate).

Triple check what you need before applying eg 6 months of accommodation booked in Thailand, 500k THB seasoned for 6mths, certified docs. It is the strictest embassy to apply from for the DTV.

It seems like a very smooth and straightforward application process at the embassy in Hanoi and the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, according to recent feedback.

You can do it from anywhere as long as you’re physically in Vietnam. The entire process is handled electronically through the e-visa portal, and once you submit your application, you simply choose the embassy or consulate responsible for the area where you are actually located. Da Nang is done through Ho Chi Minh City.
