Hi,

I want to change my visa to non-retirement in Chiang Mai.

I am reading that the Immigration Office has different requests.

When should I deposit 800.000 baht in the bank to apply for non-retirement visa at Chiang Mai immigration office.

Should the money be in the account on the application date or two months ago?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a non-retirement visa (NON-O) in Chiang Mai, you need to ensure that the 800,000 baht is deposited in a Thai bank account in your name on the date of application. This money should be 'seasoned' for a minimum of two months before applying for an extension of stay. It is advised to check the Immigration Office in Chiang Mai for the most current and detailed requirements, as local rules may vary.

So is it possible to get a multiple entry non O when you apply for the 1 year retirement visa?

inside the country all visas and all extensions are sold without re-entry permits. <- That's because you're already INSIDE Thailand when you apply for it

when you apply for visas at thai consulates in other countries they are sold as single or multiple entry because they have to let you get IN ๐Ÿ™‚

Once you get the year extension inside the country at the immigration office you then buy a re-entry permit (either a single re-entry for 1000baht or a multiple re-entry for 3800baht)

, Some consulates are still issuing multiple entry Non-O (<- note without A) visa based on retirement/pensioner (valid for 1 year, 90 days per each entry). check the embassy/consulate in your home country if you want.

This is the GENERAL requirements list for an in-country initial non-O visa based on retirement/being over 50. You need to go to the Chiang Mai office to get the latest handout/take a photo of the requirements because Chiang Mai has definitely their own list. Still, this may give you a rough idea.

be aware this sheet is NOT for initial in-country visa. it's for an extension AFTER you get initial Non-O visa

To apply for the initial 90 day non-O visa in Chiang Mai you need to have the 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only on the date you apply for the visa for 2000baht.

You need a MINIMUM Of 15 WORKING days (have at least 21 calendar days) left on your stamp to apply because the application goes under review and then you go back and get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp inked in after that.

GO to the main immigration office by the airport and get the hand out OR take photos of the graphic the have on the wall that lists the requirements to apply BOTH for the 90 day Non-O visa and then 2 months later the year extension <- it's the yearly extension that requires the 800K baht be 'seasoned' for 2 months before you apply.

BUT

if you have it in the account on the day you apply for the 90 day Non-O by the time that visa runs down and you can apply for the year extension it will be in the account for 2 months

Is it ok if the current visa is an extension of a tourist visa when applying at least 15 working days before the expiry for a retirement visa? Or does it need to be a tourist visa without any extension on it?

Ok, that's good to know. Cheers.

visa exempt entry, tourist visa entry OR a 30 day extension from either of those two is fine, just so long as you have the number of days required for the review period
