Hi, have anyone successfully done their own Retirement Visa application directly at Chiang Mai Immigration Office instead of thru a visa agency?

If yes, could you kindly share step-by-step how to do it ourselves? And including the cost.

Do I need to transfer the required 800k baht to my Thai bank account before I can start to apply for this visa at Immigration Office?

Deeply appreciated in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To successfully apply for a Retirement Visa at the Chiang Mai Immigration Office, you need to deposit 800,000 THB in your Thai bank account before starting your application. While some offices require this amount to be in your account for a minimum of two months, Chiang Mai only requires it at the time of application. The procedure includes entering Thailand on a valid visa, completing the application form at immigration, paying the application fee, and waiting for the visa to be approved. It's essential to gather necessary documents such as bank statements and certificates, and it helps to be familiar with recent immigration rules which can change.

they are based in chiang mai, not sure if they have a fancy shop. Chances are for that cheap price, i will be someone closely related to immigratiin here in chiang mai. Apple did all my preparatiin, set up appointment with bangkok bank for me, sorted out my residency certificate and prepared all the paperwork for my Retirement visa. I went super well prepared next day to immigration and handed the application in. It all went well and the bill was a mere 3500. Cant complain about that.

As u are not sure if they have a physical shop, then how u handover your documents to her to help u prepare? I am sure they need to photocopy your passport.

And how u collect the necessary documents they prepared for u?

The papers you need for retirement visa are not much. A copy of your passport, a copy of your bank book, tm30 and a certificate of depositing the money. They guided me via line to collect all papers, get bank account and deposit the money, they came and checked my paperwork one day before, and i went to immigration alone with my Visa papers ready. Maybe thats where the name is from. They guide you to get your stuff ready, and you hand it in. I would not expect for that price that they go to immigration for me. And to be honest, the rules say, i have to apply in person, i would not trust an agent running arround with my passport and bring it back with a visa. Not with all the rumors on cracking down on dodgy visa agents.

Thanks for sharing.

Do they have a physical retail shop in Chiang Mai? Or is an online company? Tried to research this company on the Internet but nothing.

I did it myself last year in Chiang Mai. I'm a UK citizen so it may differ according to your nationality. This is my recollection of the steps (again, as it applies to a UK citizen at Chiang Mai immigration).

1. Enter Thailand on tourist visa or visa exemption

2. Deposit 800K THB in your bank account (for CM, this only needs to be in your bank account when you do step 3 - there's no seasoning time at CM immigration for the non-o visa). BUT note: for Step 6, it needs to have been in your account for 2 months.

3. Go to immigration and complete form for converting to a non-o visa (you must have at least 21 days left on your permitted stay. Costs 2000 THB.

4. You'll get an "under consideration" stamp in your passport, with a date to return to immigration.

5. Return to CM immigration on that date. You'll get a non-o visa stamped into your passport, with a new 90 day stay stamp.

6. When there are less than 45 days on your stay stamp, AND your 800k has been in your bank account for 2 months, go back to CM immigration and apply for a one year extension to your stay. You'll get that stamped in on the same day. That gives you a new one year stay stamp. Costs 1900 THB.

Regarding the 800k, yes, it needs to be in your bank account before you apply to convert your tourist visa / visa exemption to a Non-O. But just a day is fine. But it needs to have been in your bank account for 2 months before you apply for your one year extension.

Thank you for such detailed sharing. However, one critical step is how you opened a bank account under visa exempt. I heard that the bank wont open bank account for tourist visa or visa exempt. not sure if that is changed now?

What is the name of the 90 day visa that allows you to open an account??
Brandon ************
@James ******
non-O. But there are many classifications of non-O. And just having a specific visa does not mean any bank will open an account for you.

Every immigration office in Thailand will require you to have the 800k in your accont before you can start to apply.

The big difference is some offices only require you to have it there, even if it was just deposited, whereas other offices will require you to have it there for 2 months already when you apply.

You need to ask the office you will be using for their list of requirements, as there are many offices in Thailand and they change their requirements from time to time. You need to ask for this list every time.
