Hi, I am sure this had been asked many times before but I couldn’t find it. Can anyone from Hua Hin tell me how long it takes for a O Visa and does the THB800k need to be in my bank for two months when applying for my first application.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The processing time for a Non-O Visa can vary, but it's generally advisable to apply at least three months before your intended stay. When applying for a Non-O Visa related to retirement (for those over 50 years), there is no immediate requirement for the THB800,000 to be seasoned for two months, unless applying at certain offices (like Jomtien). However, for annual extensions, the funds must be seasoned for at least two months prior to the application.

To apply for a Non O based on being over 50 in country there is no requirement for seasoning of funds (unless using the Jomtien office). Some offices will insist that the money shows as coming from overseas. Some don’t care where it’s from as long as you have it.

It’s when it’s time to apply for the yearly extension then the funds need to have been seasoned for 2 months prior to application.

hi Stuart, thank you that makes perfect sense.

Apply for the non O before you come to Thailand is the best way, then it's easier to open a bank account, you don't need a return flight and you have 3 months to apply for the extension.

thank you for your reply. We already have a bank account in Thailand. The problem with applying before we come is in NZ they charge NZ$2000 per application and we have to take insurance which isn’t cheap. If we do the application in Thailand it only costs THB1900. What we want to know is, doing our first application, does the THB800k need to be in our bank account for 3 months before we apply or as it’s our first application the THB800k just needs to be in our account before our application.

apologies and wow that's expensive , I understand now.

I believe in most offices you can apply for the non O in Thailand without the 800,000 being in the account for 3 months. Mine was not required here in Hua Hin, but this is Thailand, so different offices have different rules. I would recommend you state which immigration office you intend to use to get a definitive answer from the group.

Good luck and enjoy.

hi Stuart, thank you for your reply. We will be doing our non O in Hua Hin as we own a house there and that’s where we will be retiring. Thank you for your replies, they were helpful.
