TLDR : Answer Summary
Several users shared their experiences and clarifications regarding the banking requirements for the Non-O retirement visa in Chiang Mai. As of March 1, 2019, applicants must have a minimum of 800,000 baht in their personal bank account for at least two months prior to the application date, and for three months after applying, maintaining a balance of no less than 400,000 baht thereafter. Some users mentioned inconsistencies in communication from immigration officers about the required amount, with some being told they need 810,000 baht. The discussion emphasized the importance of understanding the new rules and ensuring sufficient time to prepare the required finances.

I have plenty of time before my next extension and have been leaving 900k in the account hopefully don’t need to touch it .. not for a couple of years anyway , BUT was talking to a guy the other day who said he would continue to use the agent he always uses , to which I replied , you won’t get away with that now , to which he just laughed and said , “ no I’ve already been in contact and they told him no problem he’s is due in May ...., o well , ? but I was also told that my bank account must show movement throughout the year ie money going in and or out , not just stagnant ... I seem to recall this being mentioned before as well ... I’ve always done it the ‘ correct ‘ way ie not using an agent , and I suppose I’m glad in way these agents are being eliminated, but maybe they aren’t ? . Plus now me leaving 900k and trying to just forget about would not do any good if it needs to show it’s being used throughout the year ?

Don't believe everything you're told. There is nothing in the rules that states using banked money that you need to show any movement from the account. I know people who have had their 800K baht parked in an account for years and years.

Movement might be referring to the income method where the money has to be coming in every month.

i have never heard about the movement on the account. Only first time you need to proof that the money comes from outside the country.

That is what I had remembered. Thanks so much! I'm assuming it does not make a difference whether it is a first extension of stay or a third the way that is worded. The visa company was saying 2 months only applies to the first extension.
Robert *******
To obtain your Extension of Stay, you had a non immigrant visa or many years before. You can apply again for the Extension of Stay, do not worry.

Looking at the police order the first item states must have been granted a non-immigrant visa. Since I will be doing an extension I won't have a non-immigrant visa, correct? I wonder if this is what the visa agency was referring to. He said if it was a first application (from a non-o) then it would only be two months. Am I getting caught up in semantics? Really need to be sure. Thanks again!

Counting without calculators is not the best thing for Thai people. 20 April minus 45 days is ..... 6 March.
Mary **********
Thank you for the clarification!
Mary **********
But yet they had my passport in hand and were well aware of the dates. Hummm
Robert *******
That is the rule till 1st March. So they are correct at the moment, not on the moment you're going to apply.
Robert *******
The rules of banked money change on the 1 st March. Seeing your Extension of Stay is till 20 April you have to apply after March 1, this as the maximum time to apply is 45 days before the last permitted up to date. After 1 March it is minimum 800.000 Thb on a Thai bank on your name 2 months prior application date and 3 months after application date, after these 5 months not less than 400.000 Thb. As you could no find the Police order, here it is:
Robert *******
The big change is in stead of 2 months before for the 1st Extension or 3 moths before for consecutive Extensions into 2 months before and till 3 months after with rest of the year not less than 400.000 Thb.
Steve *******
@Robert ******
It seems that from the 1st March they've done away with the 3 months before rule and tagged it onto after.

Tod Daniels, I have been using the affidavit from US Consulate in previous years to renew extension of stay. My renewal is due on April 20. This year I decided to do 800,000 in bank instead. The money will be seasoned for 2 months. Just paid a visit to Visa agency and was told it must be 3 months. Now I am left without enough time. Am I correct re two months? If so is there a police order to reference? This is Chiang Mai. Thank you.
Steve *******
@Mary *********
best to check with your local Imm office, only they can give you the definative answer
Steve *******
@Mary *********
seeing as it's not your 1st yearly extention of stay, your money should be seasoned for 3 months
Mary **********
Steve, I misread your comment. This will be my third extension.
Mary **********
That's what I had read earlier but now cannot find the police order.
Steve *******
@Mary *********
It's an interesting question. I believe it's only 2 months for your first yearly extention, subsequent extentions are 3 months
Tod *********
I think there was a "lost in translation" between him and the immigration officer it's a minimum of 800K baht in the bank..

Remember the new rules take effect starting next Friday (March 1st). That's where you need to have the money in your account for 2 months BEFORE you apply and for 3 months AFTER you apply AND you can't have the balance drop below 400K baht for the rest of the year.

800,000, should do it, maybe they were taking the piss or just wanted to make sure your mate had a bit extra
