When does the validity of a Non-O Visa start for my wife entering Thailand?

ORIGINAL POSTER
My wife, a Filipina, intends to apply for a Non O Visa early next year in Manila to enable her to stay in Thailand as a dependent on my retirement Visa.

The question is when does the clock start ticking; is it the day she gets the stamp in Manila or from the time she enters Thailand? The problem is she will be going to Australia direct from Manila for 2 months.

If it is from the date it is stamped in Manila she will only have one months validity once she gets to Thailand. Is that a problem; does it matter?

Just as a matter of interest we made inquiries with the embassies in Laos, Vietnam and Malaysia none of whom were able to process a Non O Visa (obtaining this information by the way was not easy. It took a lot of effort and many emails to find out the answer was NO. We even tried Australia and received two nonsensical answers before they stopped replying at all).

As an aside to this I am curious as to why it has to be applied for outside of Thailand anyway.

Thank you in anticipation.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question revolves around the validity period of a Non O Visa issued to a Filipina applying in Manila, particularly how it is affected by her subsequent travel to Australia. Key concerns are whether the validity starts from the date of issuance in Manila or from the date of entry into Thailand, especially considering she will be abroad for two months. There's also mention of difficulties in obtaining the visa from other countries and curiosity about the requirement to apply outside Thailand.

Unless you have an OA visa <- that you got from the thai consulate in your country which got you stamped in for a year, (the visa that required a police back ground check, medical certificate, proof of funds and 100K USD in health insurance) I am doubtful that they'll issue a 90 day Non-O visa based on being the spouse of a foreigner on a 'retirement' visa. ๐Ÿ™

No consulate that I know of (and no immigration office inside thailand) will issue that visa for that reason

As far as how does that 90 day single entry visa work;

The visa is valid for 3 months from the date it's issued <- that means the holder has that long to ENTER thailand on it and when they do they'll get stamped in for 90 days.

All the consulates & immigration offices pretty much stopped issuing that visa for that reason about the same time.

You're going to have to find another way for her to stay as that Non-O based on trailing spouse of a foreigner on 'retirement' isn't gonna be the answer
