TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around applying for a Non-O Visa from outside Thailand, specifically regarding the time allowed to enter Thailand after the visa is granted. Users share insights about the different processes for applying for Non-O Visas, the duration of stays, and the necessary paperwork for dependents. Concerns about potential flight cancellations affecting travel plans are also noted, as well as alternative entry methods like applying for a tourist visa initially.

The only difference between processing an in country Non-Immigrant visa in Bangkok and Chiang Mai are the "under consideration" periods that the application goes under when you apply.

At both places (actually at every office that can do it) the price is 2000 baht for an in country Non-Immigrant Type visa.

In Bangkok you apply when you have at least 15 days left on your current stamp and get a 14 day under consideration period

Where as in Chiang Mai you apply when you have at least 21 days left on your current stamp and get a 20 day under consideration period.

Once that time is up you go back and they ink the Non-Imm visa and a new 90 day admitted until stamp into your passport.

OFF TOPIC: Remember the only reason you CANNOT get an in country Non-O visa issued for is if you are married to a foreigner who is on a retirement visa/extension and wanting the Non-O as a trailing spouse. NO office will issue an in country Non-O for that reason. You get it from the thai consulate in your country before you come here OR you don't get it at all.

just contact the thai consulate in New Zealand and see if you can apply for a single entry 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50. Some consulates allow it some don't. That visa will get you stamped in for 90 days when you arrive and then you can apply for your yearly extension like normal at your immigration office.

OR

come in on a tourist visa or visa exempt entry and then apply at your immigration office for an in country 90 day Non-O visa.

Those are the choices

Is the visa for yourself or for your wife and child?

Visa needed for my South Korean wife and three month baby

I have a non-O visa for Retirement.

Is it correct she will need to obtain a non-O visa from outside Thailand, then she has three months to applt for a visa that is connected to mine (dependent?)

What paper work is required, ie proof of marage....

Thanks

A Non O visa for what purpose ?

Why not enter visa exempt on arrival and then apply for the Non O visa inside Thailand?

are you now working out of Thailand and usually visit your Thai family during your breaks in work? Such as we see with many expats who work offshore drilling and oil fields, other shipping and in business.

James Miller i have a non Thai wife and child.

Currently im in new zealand, thus thats why i'm thinking of getting Non"O" visa while here. (Wife is Korean)

mid September we fly to korea,

I will stay only 2-3weeks, then i go to Thailand.

Wife and baby will follow in 2-3 months, mean time she will sort out her required paperwork(more questions on that latter)

I no longer work, retired

Now thats a thought, i'd forgotten about getting a non"O" visa inside of thailand (chiangMai)

that is what I recommend...

Simply enter Thailand with a CoE and with visa exempt entry on arrival.... Gives 45 days on arrival plus added 30 days extension for 1900 Thai baht at Thai immigration = 75 days

During which you apply for the Non O married to Thai visa and one year extension of stay based on marriage.

If added time is needed you could apply for the 60 days family extension one time... Thereby giving you 135 days to get the visa and extension of stay you need.
