When does the 90-day report due date start from in Thailand after re-entering the country?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Hi all, I am returning to Thailand on the 24th of September, 2024 and have a visa extended on the 9th of December 2024. Today, when I went to do my 90-day report, I was fined 2,000 baht, and the officer said that the 90-day report date counts from the date I returned to Thailand, not from the date I renewed my visa. Is this a fact? I clearly remember the rule is to count from the date of renewing the visa. The same lady fined me twice for the same reason.

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, the 90-day reporting period for foreigners starts from the date of their last entry into the country, not from the date of visa renewal or extension. This means that regardless of when a visa is extended, the countdown for the 90-day report begins anew from each entry. The responsibility to keep track of these dates lies with the individual, and an officer will stamp the passport with the due date for the next report after each submission. Additionally, there can be inconsistencies in how different immigration offices handle these reports, so it's essential for expats to be proactive in managing their reporting obligations.

Some immigration offices will ask you to do a 90 report when you get a new extension but you would have had to complete the 90 day report and they would have stapled the receipt with the date your next report would be due in the back of your passport. It's your responsibility to keep on top of your reports

It’s starts the day you enter

I had a multi entry visa and they dated the new one 90 days from my last entry stamp, not the 12 month, I lost 2.5 month

@Mike ********
I doubt you lost anything as you could have left the country and stamped back in just before the visa expired to get a fresh 90 days

in hindsight yes, but i was under the impression I had a 12 month visa, as per stamped date inside,and if I did my 90 day reporting as usually then that would be honoured.

@Mike ********
you obviously completely misunderstood the visa you were on. That's entirely down to you

no prob, like I said hindsight is a wonderfully thing, multi entry + 1 it is then

90 days from your last entry..

From the very first extension you got then the date count was reset to day one. After that your extension date is irrelevant and not used to count 90 days. You must manually count 89 days after you leave the country and return. On each filing of the report it will be stapled in your passport so if you don’t leave the country that will be the date your next report is due.

Hei, I have to ask you , since you are reliable.

I arrived on a 60 days exempt, made a extension 30 days.

Then converted to a Non-o visa and got another 90 days.

I tried to make a 90 day report, and was told by the immigration officer( Khon kaen), that I didn’t need to do a report since I’m not on a long-term stay.

So for the next time, is this by the book or is it this immigration officer’s conclusion?

Thanks in advance .

Thanks, to clarify that

Yes. On a non O visa you don’t make a 90 day report because you can’t stay in Thailand for 90 consecutive days. The fact that you were here before on exempt is irrelevant. When you go for your first year extension the clock starts from that day - because you “could” stay in Thailand for 90 consecutive days.
