I am going to Thailand on a 30 day free visa. I am a permanent resident in Australia but travel i travel on a New Zealand passport. How can I get an extension for another 30 day stay so I have 60 days in total.
Answer summary
If you are traveling to Thailand on a New Zealand passport, you will receive a 60-day visa exemption upon arrival, which is essentially an entry stamp, not a visa. Currently, it's not necessary to apply for any additional visa before travel. If you wish to stay longer, you can extend your stay by 30 days at a Thai immigration office before your initial 60 days expire. However, it's essential to stay updated on any changes to visa regulations, as Thailand may revert the exemption back to 30 days in the future.

Doesn't matter if your a resident in Australia, your on a NZ passport and the rules apply to that not the fact that Australia has a reciprocal arrangement with New Zealand on residency

It's not a free visa it's a entry stamp and is still 60 days

First ignore Jimlim Scott, you don’t need to do anything to come for 60 days, just book your flight, do your TDAC at most 3 days be you arrive , if you forget you can hook up to the airport WiFi when you arrive and do it then

I would check first, they are planning on changing 60 day exemption to 30. If and when itbdoes change you just need to go to a Thai immigration office to apply for an extension.

I arrive 6 month ago. I have 60 day, I leave Thailand, come back. Get a other 60 day, go to immigration, have 30 day extension. To avoid refusal i pay agency to do a border run and i have a other 60 day now.

Ritchie Voyce - all good from a fellow Kiwi.

As others have noted, until the law changes NZ Passport holders do not need to apply for a visa before travel, and on arrival you’ll be given a 60 day Permit stamped on your passport. This is referred to asa ‘visa-free’ arrival.

All non-Thai arrivals also need to complete a (free) digital arrival card that captures basic travel information (arrival, departure, where you stay on arrival and so on).

There are 2 key terms that get bandied around:

A Visa essentially gives confidence to the airline and immigration officials that the Thai Embassy in home country has reviewed your application and you likely present a low risk. However, it only gets you as far as the immigration officer (IO), who might still deny a traveller entry if they hold doubts.

Assuming allowed to enter Thailand, a Permit is stamped into your passport - this has arrival date, and the latest date you can stay before being an overstayer.

A bit confusingly, the Thai Tourist Visa (TR) that one can apply for (if not meeting the requirement if the ‘visa free’ arrival) is referred to as a 90 Visa. The 90 days refers to the time period (window) that the visa is active and within you will enter Thailand. This is quite distinct from the Permit with a max of 60 Days, and where folks get confused.

For my current trip, I applied for my TR 6 weeks before flying and it was granted in a day. The TR is valid for 90 days (16 Mar to 13 Jun). I arrived on 03 May (inside the 90 days), and my Permit is until 02 Jul. I depart late June.

I probably don’t need a TR as my travel pattern is conventional, but I am not really staying as a ‘tourist’ as we are staying at my wife’ place for 8 weeks break.

Have a great trip!

Kia Ora bro. No need to do anything. Visa exempt for 60 days, and can apply for 30 day extension after if you wish.

You don’t have 30 days now, it’s 60 days. With possibility to extend for another 30 days.

Currently you will still get a 60 day visa exempt when you arrive in Thailand, which is completely free, they are still talking about reverting back to 30 days but nothing official yet.

Jimlim Scott TDAC has nothing to do with visa requirements, it is simply a digital version of the old TM6 paper arrival card and is a pre entry requirement. Visa exempt 60 day stay still exists for 93 countries.

Jimlim Scott this is NOT a site to get information, but to apply for TDAC.

Besides, no visa needed : will get visa exempt for 60 days, which is NOT a visa. It means exempted from visa.

Its currently 60 days visa exemption entry on NZ passport..

It may change in the future back to 30 days but at this stage there has been no official Thailand government announcement of the change or date of change..

Should it change before you arrive in Thailand you would just need to visit any Thailand immigration office for a 30 day extension before your initial time expires..

You don't need any visa, free or otherwise. You will automatically be stamped in for 60 days in what is called a visa exempt entry
