Evening all.

Looking for advice. Going to Savannaket on Monday for a Thai visa. We are being driven from Korat, but the driver will not go into Laos. My question is should he drop us at Mukhada Bus station or can we get a taxi from the border crossing?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The best way to reach Savannakhet for a Thai visa is to take an international bus from the Mukdahan bus station, which departs every 30 minutes for about 50 baht. Alternatively, after crossing the border, you can arrange a tuk-tuk directly to the Thai consulate in Savannakhet for around 200 baht. Remember to prepare for the Laos Visa on Arrival and bring necessary documents.

Be aware, you need to buy the Visa on Arrival for Laos, 1.600 Thb or 35 usd in new bills, 2 passport pictures and bring your own pen.

And so far for the how do I get to a border advice.

There is an international bus that leaves from the Mukdahan bus station every 30 minutes or so. It's like 50 baht, and they take you to the Thai side, then to the Laos side. I believe they also go to the bus station in Savannakhet, but I usually just get a tuk-tuk on the Laos side, to go straight to the Thai Consulate. That's usually 200thb or so.
