TLDR : Answer Summary
When you land in Bangkok on a retirement visa, your passport will likely be stamped with a year-long entry if you hold a Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa issued by certain Thai consulates in the U.S. You will be required to report your stay every 90 days, which is a common requirement for long-term visas in Thailand.

Here's the requirements for the year-long, multi-entry Non-O-A visa I mentioned from the LA consulate.

Be prepared to show proof of income. We had to have statement from social security, copies of our investment funds amounts and IRAs, 401Ks as well as a signed lease for the rental property we owned. They all had to have original notary stamps and 2 copies.

Yes...I had to double check by calling the consulate. Very efficient, like you say, just as long as the paperwork is complete.

Luis Gutierrez OA visa takes two days ... tourist visa is same day. At least at the LA consulate as of 3 months ago. Double check the drop off time ... I think it was before 12pm or something. Parking available in the neighborhood, but make sure you are on the correct side based on the trash pick-up schedule. Good luck! In the Hollywood district so you can do other activities while there. Enjoy!

Houston can't sell what I just mentioned and what most people refer to as a 'retirement visa'.

They can sell you a 90 day, single entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on being over 50.

That visa would stamp you into thailand for 90 days when you arrive.

Then you would go to the immigration office and apply for a yearly extension of stay by either banking 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name for 60 days before the application for extension OR by getting an affidavit of income from abroad letter from the US consulate here in Thailand stating you get over 65K baht a month in income.

IF you get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa from the thai consulates in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York or Washington DC (the only consulates that offer that visa) when you arrive in thailand you'll be stamped in for a whole year. That's the visa that requires a police background check and a medical certificate.

You WILL be required to do 90 day reporting if you are in the country 90 days.

It all depends on what you call a retirement visa.
