Hello everyone,

I am a Myanmar national currently in my final year of a bachelor’s degree program in Thailand. My education (ED) visa will expire on May 31, 2026. I am seeking advice on how I can continue living in Thailand legally after my graduation, as I would prefer not to return to Myanmar at this time.

I would be very grateful for any guidance, shared experiences, or suggestions regarding possible visa options or legal pathways to remain in Thailand.

Thank you all very much for taking the time to read my message and for any advice you can offer. 🙏😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Myanmar national studying in Thailand is seeking advice on how to extend their stay legally after their education visa expires in 2026. Suggestions from the community include exploring job opportunities, marrying a Thai national, pursuing further education (like a Master's degree), and applying for permanent residency after three years of employment. Alternatives such as volunteering or internships under legitimate programs were also recommended. Additionally, reaching out to the UNHCR in Bangkok for support was suggested.

You have a few options after your ED visa, such as switching to a Non B visa with an employer, continuing your studies, or joining a legitimate volunteer or internship program. It’s good you’re planning ahead. For practical, up to date visa and travel tips in Thailand, look up Landscape Hub

Tbh, if you don't choose a job. You have same opportunity as Thais. Very easy to obtain work permit by employer

Very cheap work visa for lao and mianma

I would try to continue with a M.A.

I would first reach out to the UNHCR in Bangkok and seek advice. The only real option might be to register with them.

Lo June,

PLEASE CHECK - My student informs me that CMU cancels the visa one month after completion of studies...If you wish to attend the graduation ceremony, you have to apply for a visa to attend at that time. You are already at CMU Nursing, please confirm this and share for others...In any case, try to improve your Thai enough to take the required Thai qualification, otherwise your options become very limited. God luck.

Would it be silly of me to ask whether I can apply for a Thai Tourist (TR) visa while remaining in Thailand, or whether I must leave the country and apply at a Thai embassy in a neighboring country instead? Alternatively, would it ultimately be more cost-effective to return to Myanmar and apply from there?

Get a job or create a company or get married to a Thai

After 3 years of working in Thailand you can apply for permanent residence which is good for life
