I am a Myanmar national currently in my final year of a bachelor’s degree program in Thailand. My education (ED) visa will expire on May 31, 2026. I am seeking advice on how I can continue living in Thailand legally after my graduation, as I would prefer not to return to Myanmar at this time.
I would be very grateful for any guidance, shared experiences, or suggestions regarding possible visa options or legal pathways to remain in Thailand.
Thank you all very much for taking the time to read my message and for any advice you can offer. 🙏😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Myanmar national currently studying in Thailand is seeking advice on how to legally remain in the country after graduation, as their education visa expires in 2026. Suggestions from the community include applying for a job, marrying a Thai national, continuing education at a master’s level, or considering volunteering as potential pathways. There are also mentions of contacting the UNHCR for assistance and discussions about the possibility of obtaining a work permit.
Okay I am going to be honest with you. Screw Thailand, they will always be racist to you as they see that they are above you. Since you are on an ed visa, it means you got some money to leave the country. If I were you, I would try to study in America for your masters. It is extremely hard and will cost you an arm and a leg, but you found a way to be in Thailand instead of fighting a war. Leave Thailand, there is zero future for you here.
You have a few options after your ED visa, such as switching to a Non B visa with an employer, continuing your studies, or joining a legitimate volunteer or internship program. It’s good you’re planning ahead. For practical, up to date visa and travel tips in Thailand, look up Landscape Hub
PLEASE CHECK - My student informs me that CMU cancels the visa one month after completion of studies...If you wish to attend the graduation ceremony, you have to apply for a visa to attend at that time. You are already at CMU Nursing, please confirm this and share for others...In any case, try to improve your Thai enough to take the required Thai qualification, otherwise your options become very limited. God luck.
Would it be silly of me to ask whether I can apply for a Thai Tourist (TR) visa while remaining in Thailand, or whether I must leave the country and apply at a Thai embassy in a neighboring country instead? Alternatively, would it ultimately be more cost-effective to return to Myanmar and apply from there?
