What visa options are available for foreigners married to Thai nationals who want to stay for four months?

Aug 29, 2024

I am married to a Thai man, I want to go to join him for 4months , but the criteria for o/a visa is difficult. I would be better off with tourist visa and extend for month! So 3 months. We have been married for more than 30years and it’s got more difficult.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the best visa option for visiting her Thai husband for 4 months, facing challenges with the O/A visa criteria. Community members suggested several alternatives, including obtaining a Non-O visa that allows for an initial 90-day stay and a possible extension of up to 60 days based on marriage to a Thai national. Recommendations emphasized the importance of having proper documentation like a marriage certificate and the necessity to potentially apply for further extensions or re-entry permits. The thread included multiple discussions regarding experiences with visa processes, extensions, and advice on navigating the visa application.

Why you say it’s difficult? Just apply online for the 90 day visa for visiting family then extend your once here. It’s very simple costs £60 I usually get mine issued within a couple of weeks of application.

I'm married in Australia to a Thai man and we will marry next year in Thailand when same sex marriage is finally legal here. I will then go the O visa way and then the marriage extension.

Does your husband have an ID card, house registration and you have a marriage certificate officially translated into Thai?

If so, I can assure you it is relatively easy to get a non O visa visiting your partner. I do it every year. You get 90 + a 60day extension.

You can get 6 months maybe more depending on what the immigration person thinks. But 6 is possible. You get 60 days on arrival visa exempt. Towards the end of that go to immigration and pay 1900 baht for 30 more. Then leave and reenter again for another 60 plus 30. 6 months.

Get a Non O for 90 days and extend for 30 days.

This is what us Men do to stay with our Thai wives.

Same same but different.

I have been to Thailand more than once in the last year. So far, when I enter Thailand I just get 30 days, and then have to go to a Thai consulate for a 30-day extension. Has this process recently changed?

Visiting your Thai spouse is really easy and even 4 months doesn’t require something extravagant.

You can come to Thailand on a 90 day non-o visa based on being married on a Thai national. During the 90 days it can be extended for another 60 days. Done.

Just make sure you have the like of documentation in order and ready.

Cost of the 60 day extension is 1900 baht.

If you are legally married to a Thai get a Non-O Visa before you travel then get a 12 moonth extension before your 90 days is up

Tha advantage of a 12 month extension is it can be renewed year on year for 1900B, you'll need a re-entry permit when you leave (1000B single or 3800B multi-entry) and you'll never need a Visa again as long as you don't miss an extension

If you're officially married it's very easy for you. Get a non-o (not a Non-OA) visa before you travel and you can extend this for 12 months inside Thailand. Females married to Thai males do not require to show funds, you just apply with your marriage certificate and take your husband along

If you are married officially, it's not too hard to get spousal visa. Just need to collect few documents, make few photos of you being together inside and outside the house, his id/house registration, marriage certificate and that's it. Otherwise it's easy to come 60+30, and you can do 1 day visa run somewhere to nearby country which will give you extra 60+30 days.

What passport do you have? If you're eligible for visa exempt you can go without a visa and receive a 60 day visa exempt stamp. Then you can apply for a 30 day tourist extension one time.

When those 90 days have almost ended you can apply for the 60 day visiting Thai family extension based on your husband.

You don't need to get a visa online before you travel. A tourist visa gives you 60 days. Visa exempt (arriving without a visa) gives you 60 days. So there's no reason to apply online and pay when you can get 60 days for free. Both can get one 30-day extension as well.
