TLDR : Answer Summary
A 17-year-old NZ passport holder visiting Chiang Mai for 4-5 months should consider a Single Entry Tourist Visa before leaving New Zealand, which grants a 60-day stay in Thailand. This visa can be extended for an additional 30 days. Alternatively, upon returning from a month in South Korea, she can enter Thailand again under the visa exemption rule, receiving another 30 days, which can also be extended for an additional 30 days. Thus, careful planning is advised to conform to her travel itinerary.

Depends on her itinerary, for 4 months do 2 visa exemptions and extend each one. For 5 months do 1 visa exempt and extend then apply for an SETV in Korea and extend that.

Fantastic. Many thanks for your advice

The proper tourist visa gives her 60 days...and this can then be extended for another 30days

Can extend a visa exempt for another 30days....

Extension of Stay is for 30 days.

Thanks for the feedback.

So I understand this correctly,

She should apply for a 2 month visa in NZ before leaving.

If she wants to stay in Thailand longer, she can get a extension at cm immigration, how long would she get 15 or 30 days?

Other option is that she flies out to South Korea and when she returns to CM, she would get a 30 day stay, can this he extended and how long 15 Or 30 days

Yeah this seems about right. Definitely start with a 60-day visa in NZ, just in case she wants to stay a bit longer (you can then extend another 30 days). Getting a tourist visa in Seoul might be quite fiddly or inconvenient.- depending on her itinerary. If she can do it then great, otherwise the 30-day visa exemption (with a 30-day extension) will do the trick.

To be honest, in the long run the single entry tourist visa is the better option....a little planning goes a long way if circumstances change....

Same like bruce said, other option ull need to organise visa before u go and is not neccesary for the initial 2 month stay, rinse and repeat

Before she fly, get a Single Entry Tourist Visa which gives her 60 days of stay and cost only 1000 Thb. Extension of stay for Visa Exempt Entry or Tourist Visa cost 1900 Thb.

She just flies straight in....gets a 30day visa exempt....this can be extended for another 30days.........that’s 60 days/2 months.

Flies to South Korea......flies back in and repeats....no problems.
