TLDR : Answer Summary
Costa Rican passport holders need to obtain a visa to travel to Thailand since they are not eligible for an electronic visa. The Thai consulate in San Jose, Costa Rica is closed, and applicants must go to the nearest Thai embassy in Santiago, Chile, to apply for their visa.

Costa Rican passport holders are not (yet) eligible for electronic visa. Thus, they would need to go to the nearest embassy or consulate to get a visa. It would seem that the Royal Thai Consulate in Costa Rica is no longer allowed to issue visa, though. They state on their website (

that the nearest embassy to do so would be in Santiago de Chile. What a mess.

No visa exemption of regular passport holders of Costa Rica either. Seems like quite a hassle to be coming to Thailand in this case.

I think the Thai consulate in San Jose is closed, as of 2021. Now visas are handled from Santiago

my thoughts would be apply for a Thai Tourist Visa, online in Singapore, fly there, collect, then onto Thailand.

No embassy or consulate in Panama, Colombia?

Chile is really far away from Costa Rica. There are many countries in between. No other Thai embassies there?

No I am not. And I am a swiss citizen. So I can go on visa exempt anyway. But I was just curious. Many countries between Costa Rica and Chile. So I was wondering if there is no consulate or embassy like in Brasil or Colombia.

I can't find anything on Google. So if you don't know no problem. I just thought maybe you know

you're not in Costa Rica, there's no problem for you... πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I wouldn't be advising to contact Santigo if I thought there was a more appropriate office
