TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to apply for a Non O-A visa and inquires about the visa type for their wife, who will accompany them. The responses clarify that while the husband can apply for a multi-entry Non-O-A visa, the wife could apply for a single-entry Non-O visa valid for 90 days upon entry. It is suggested that she can later apply for a one-year extension of stay based on their marriage, allowing continued residency in Thailand after the initial 90 days.

Okay we need to understand the dofference between a 90 day single entry Non-O visa <- which allows ONE entry of 90 days and a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa which allows unlimited entries of 90 days each time for the year the visa is valid for. When the 90 days runs out she would go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and then stamp back into thailand to get another 90 days.

I would weigh in and say;

IF you are getting a year-long, multi-entry Non-O-A visa from your country before you come here, the logical thing would be your wife to apply for a 90 day single entry Non-O visa. When you both arrive here you'd be stamped in for a year, and your wife would be stamped in for 90 days. When that 90 days runs out your wife would apply for a yearly extension of stay based on being married to someone who is allowed a long term stay in thailand at the immigration office for 1900 baht.

@Steve *******
extensions of stays issued inside the country by immigration offices are sold as NO re-entry :O That's because you're already IN thailand when you apply for an extension.

Once she would get the yearly extension (that would match your year entry stamp you get when you stamp into the country on the O-A visa) she would BUY a re-entry permit (either a single re-entry permit for 1000baht OR a multiple re-entry permit for 3800baht.

Thank you for your response Todd. We are currently in Thailand both on a single entry O visa. Our intention was for us both to get a non O -A visa next month when we return to the UK, me based on my pension and my wife on our savings, but have just realised that our savings account is in my name only. Therefore she would not be able to demonstrate proof of funds. Therefore, your advice sounds our best option until we can get our account name changed to a joint account and wait 3 months. Would the yearly extension to her Non O visa be multi entry as we would need to return to the U.K. periodically during that year.

When you apply for the Non Imm. O-A Visa Multi-Entry (age 50 or over) in your home country... Your wife can apply for a single entry non immigrant O Visa 90 Days. Upon entering Thailand at the last 30 days of her 90 days - you and your wife can go to the Thai immigration office near where you are residing and she can apply for a One Year Extension of Stay for a fee of 1900 baht, Application TM.7 Form and other documents. Upon that One Year Extension being granted - you and your wife will then just have to report to the local Immigration office every 90 days.

But by matching your and your wife's visa / extension status to only being required to report to Thai Immigration every 90 days - you would be better off (in most people's opinion)

With a Non Imm O-A Multij Entry Visa - You could if you choose - exit Thailand every 90 days - If you choose to do so - but not required.

You may be able to get a Non Imm O Multi Entry in the U.K. (but it is not commonly issued these days)... But even if you get it... Your Non Imm O-A Multi-Entry Visa (oddly enough) does not require you to leave Thailand every 90 days - Her Non Imm O multi-entry Visa would require her to exit and reenter Thailand every 90 days... A mis-match of Visas.

so would that be any different to us applying for a non O multi entry in the U.K.

She would need to buy a multiple Reentry Permit at the local Immigration Office

Thanks for your message Joe. On that one year extension of stay would it allow her multi entry
Robert *******
You need to apply for her for the 1 year Multiple Entry Non Immigrant O Visa. You will get 1 year of stay on each entry, she will get only 90 days on entry.

@Steve *******
Im not sure that your wife will get the multi entry non imm O in London. Even though their website states it's avaliable, I know friends who've applied but only been issued with the single entry and been advised to extend it in Thailand
