Hi my wife and I are planning to move to Thailand at the end of this year I am 54 and she is 47, I was hoping to obtain an O visa and add my wife as a dependant but have been told that she needs to be out the country to apply for a dependent visa, would I be able to get an OA visa in my country with a dependent?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around a question about obtaining an OA visa while applying for a dependent visa for the user's wife. Clarifications indicate that the NON-OA visa might allow for a trailing spouse visa, but it may not be possible with the NON-O visa. Specific guidance suggests checking with the Thai embassy about the involvement of both visas and the requirements for dependents if applying from the UK.

cannot get a trailing spouse visa for retirement in Thailand. Needs to be done beforehand. And probably not possible on a non-O visa.

Gladly I’m reading this topic, it’s a similar topic to what I’m supposed to mention. Good luck to everyone.. Happy Retirement to us all. Good luck 🤞

If you are planning on applying for a non-o visa inside Thailand your wife has almost no chance of getting a trailing spouse visa. Even if you get a non-o visa in the UK I don't think she can. If you get a non-oa visa in the UK she might be able to but you would need to check with the thai embassy in London

I believe that an O and OA type of visa may be issued to applicants aged 50 years and over.

As long as you understand the difference between non-O and non-OA visa:

The non-OA is the only visa type that some embassies are still allowing you to get the trailing spouse visa for. You may have to do some searching to find an embassy that will offer it but you should be able to find one. Then once your wife is on it she'll be able to extend to match your visa entry stamp

the Non-OA visa can only be applied for in one's country of residence, or "home country". So there won't be much of a search for a Thai embassy - he needs to use the one in his home country. Only if HE gets a Non-O/A visa, his wife might be allowed to apply for the Non-Imm-O trailing spouse visa. Her age is not relevant, just their marriage must be proved, and then again proved on Immigration in Thailand with embassy legalized translations (and on some immigrations also legalized by the Thai MfA). . Wish him Good Luck
