Correct me if I am wrong.

After I get my retirement visa done, for my wife who is below 50 she has to get a non-O dependent visa (trailing spouse) tagged to my visa, correct?

This must be done only at the Thai embassy in her home country, correct?

Problem. I checked online with the Thai embassy in Vietnam and they don’t have such an option. The Dependent accompanies the spouse (me) who is either working OR studying in Thailand only (it’s doesn’t state for retirement). We have ASEAN passports.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on visa requirements for their spouse after obtaining a retirement visa in Thailand. They believe their wife needs to apply for a non-O dependent visa at the Thai embassy in her home country. However, they encountered issues as the Thai embassy in Vietnam does not appear to offer this option for retirement visa holders. Commenters suggested that many embassies are no longer providing non-O dependant visas for retirement, and there may be different rules depending on the type of retirement visa held (Non-O vs. Non-OA). Additionally, questions arose regarding the concept of ASEAN passports.

What actually is an ASEAN passport?

@Roberto ********
It is a passport from a member of an asean country. Not an actual passport but like saying a schengen member passport.

Which means absolutely nothing in the context of obtaining a visa for Thailand. Perhaps if you gave proper information when asking for advice you would get much better advice

I have received good advice. There’s no need to dwell on this ASEAN passport part if you don’t understand what ASEAN is or didn’t even look it up on Google.

A German passport can be referred as a European passport in general term so why can’t I say my passport is an ASEAN passport if I’m from one of the 10 ASEAN countries?

I know what ASEAN is. What you probably don't realise is Thailand immigration looks at every passport country independently, same as Europe. Thailand immigration deals with COUNTRIES not with trading or political blocs, or continents. You have a lot to learn, maybe you should be googling!! 😂😂😂

Noted that nothing positive or helpful from your comments here.

Some people might find it useful to know that there's no such thing as an ASEAN passport, or a European passport, especially where Thai immigration is concerned

ASEAN is Association of Southeast Asian Nations. 10 Asian countries in this group.

there is no such thing as a ASEAN passport, the ASEAN group is made up from 10 South East Asian countries, you must still hold a valid passport for your home country.

Yes correct. I meant it as a collective meaning. My passport is from one of the 10 countries in ASEAN.

What sort of retirement visa do you have? That can make all the difference. If it's a Non-O then you are really going to struggle, if it's a Non-OA it may be possible. Some options such as the LTR visa have support for spouse included

It's almost impossible to do this now. Most embassies have stopped offering the non-O dependant based on marriage for retirement and it's impossible to do inside Thailand. For the most part now both must qualify for their own.

Some embassies are willing to offer the non-O dependant if the primary has a non-OA though.

That’s what I thought so too. Cannot find such an option at the Thai Embassy.
