TLDR : Answer Summary
To work as a substitute teacher in international schools in Thailand, you typically need a Non Immigrant B visa along with a Work Permit from the Ministry of Labor. A Non Immigrant O visa may also be used under certain conditions, but it generally does not allow for employment without a work permit. Schools usually assist in obtaining the work permit, but if you plan to work at multiple schools, this may require additional steps.

An additional source of income. If you want to survive

You need to be taking this up with the school. I don't know IF someone on a Type M visa/extension can also work at another location or not OR if they can get another employer listed on their work permit. .

The school provide the documents and apply for the work permit. If you have additional employers they need to be added to the work permit.

So the school helps provide the work permit? Most subs work for more than one school, so how does that work?

I was a sub at two International Schools in Bangkok. No work permit, but that was in the 90's when things were looser. They even had me typing and answering phones in the school office at times!

Do you already have a job lined up as a sub? I have never heard of a school (even international schools) hiring substitute teachers.
