With regards to the non immigrant b visa. Regarding an application to teach English.

Currently staying in Thailand on a guardian visa and looking to change.

What type of police check do the embassy require.

Hold a British passport, so do you need a British police check as do not plan to Travel back there. Possibly looking to go To vientienne or Hong Kong Embassy.

Also would the TEFL certificate be enough of a qualification to apply for this type of visa.

Thanks for any help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around applying for a Non-Immigrant B visa to teach English in Thailand while currently on a guardian visa. Key queries include the type of police check required by the embassy, particularly whether a British police check is necessary without traveling back to the UK, and if a TEFL certificate suffices as a qualification. Responses highlight that most teaching positions require a bachelor's degree, particularly for formal schools, and caution against seeking jobs without proper visas.

I'm not sure about providing links in this group (several of my previous posts with informational links have disappeared) but there is a group for on-line teachers working in Thailand.

If you don't need to worry about the visa and want something do to then teaching on-line it is an option from the comfort of your own home that immigration has stated they will ignore.

I agree. There is too much to lose in getting caught.

This is more to for my wife to keep busy, not so much the money or the job.

But as I said it seems. Most jobs, if not all need the visa.

Shame.

There is work and there is legal work (proper visa and/or work permit).

Young folks on gap year exercises have no worry about 20 hours in a van, regular border hops and the adventure of a year in Thighland.

.

For us older folks it is usually a bit different. We are no longer immortal or indestructible and our daily blogs about teach 'n travel don't reach out to anyone. The thought of 20 hours in a van running hither and thither on a Thai highway are not the thrills and adventure we typically seek.

It seems that you will not get a job in teaching without a degree. All Came about a few years ago as a government clamp down. Fair enough I suppose.

But it is amazing how many of these TEFL schools and organisations still Promote the fact you can get a job after completing their courses. With some Even advertising the fact that they do border runs to extend their stay.

Looking at other options, it does also seem that almost any job for an expat requires a degree of some sort.

Stumbling blocks at every corner.

Not sure about getting the work permit on a guardian visa but getting a work permit as a teacher at a formal school or informal school (government or private) will require a bachelor degree.

You can get by without the degree if you are working at a non-formal education center (less than 7 students enrolled simultaneously (private schools act)).

.

The TEFL course makes no difference. It is NOT a requirement to teach in Thailand.

OK thanks for the info. Not sure, I thought a guardian visa prohibited you from working.

Will have to check what's written on it

I could be wrong, but i'm sure someone will weigh in about it soon.

Unless I'm mistaken you can hold a work permit on an extension based on taking care of a child. Why do you need a Non-B?
