I'm from the United States and I'm thinking of coming to work for a friend company in Chiangrai and Chiangmai in January. What type of visa do I apply for and how long will the visa last? I also want to know what is required to get that visa. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To work in Chiangrai and Chiangmai, you will need a 90-day Non-Immigrant Type B visa, which is specifically for business purposes. You should consult with the company you will be working for, as they will provide important information regarding your visa. Additionally, check the Thai consulate's website in the US for specific requirements for applying, as these may vary by location. After the initial 90 days, you can apply for a yearly extension at the immigration office with documentation from your employer.

Providing you have a degree and the company is registered to be able to employ a foreigner.

James... There is absolutely no requirements about having a degree to work in Thailand. A person does need a degree to get a teaching license waiver or a Thai teaching license, and I imagine they need degrees if you transfer over a license to do medicine, a license to be a vet, etc.

But unless the job requires a license with a degree, then no degree is needed to get a Non b visa and work permit

No, it is not that easy. Your employer applies for the Work Permit at the Ministry of Labor. When application is approved he will get a so called WP3 Form, which you need, plus some company documents to apply for the Non Immigrant B visa. When you enter with this visa into Thailand you get 90 days of stay, pick up your work permit as soon as possible and after 60 days you can visit your local imigration office to apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay with a lot of company documents.

No college degree, not a bachelor, not a master and woked 16 years in Thailand with work permits, Non immigrant B visa and Extensions of Stay. I'would say, it is possble

any kind of degree? Or must be a specific degree that fits the job?

You will get a 90 day Non-B visa, get stamped in for 90 days, then when that is running out you go to the immigration office and apply for a yearly extension using documentation from your employer.

The company you're going to work for here is the people you need to be talking to.

You would need to apply for a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type B visa <- the B means business.

Look at the thai consulate websites in the US (LA, Chicago, Washington DC or New York) for the requirements to get that visa because they will vary depending on the consulate.
