TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a Non-Immigrant Visa B in Thailand, you typically need a legitimate job offer from an employer who will assist you with the necessary paperwork. The initial visa is valid for 90 days and is single-entry. After that, you may extend your visa, which involves additional paperwork and coordination with local immigration authorities. If you're working as a university researcher, you should apply for a Non-Immigrant B visa, which has slightly less documentation required for extensions. It's crucial to consult with your employer and the nearest Thai consulate for specific requirements.

Obtaining the business visa is relatively straightforward, basically a job offer will do. But the visa itself is only good for 90 days, single entry. The real “fun” starts when extending your stay beyond that with local immigration, then. See requirements of immigration. But usually the employer helps with that. Or did you mean to open your own business?
it does require a ton of paperwork though. I wouldn't call this visa "straightforward". I had to rent a van to drive all the docs to the embassy because it wouldn't fit in my car.

Thanks for sharing. I got a researcher position at a university. But I am a little confused about what visa I should apply for!
For positions at universities it is actually slightly easier / less documentation required to extend. You should apply for a Non-Immigrant B visa for working purposes at your closest Thai consulate in your jurisdiction. Check their website for their exact requirements. Should you already be in Thailand on a different visa, you can swap to work visa in country IF you have enough weeks left on your current stamp. The university should assist you with that.

Thanks for the information. Does anyone know what kind of visa a university researcher requires? Is it non-immigrant visa B or researcher visa-R??
