Planning on traveling to Chaing Mai for 3 months next spring, from the US & over 50, if that matters. Opportunity came up for a place to stay and would like to explore the area to see if it would fit in with early retirement plans in a few years.
Kind of confused as to which visa I might need to apply for. Tourist visa is 60 days and can apply for a 30 day extension once I'm there?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on the appropriate visa for a 3-month stay in Chiang Mai, Thailand, as part of exploring retirement options. The discussion mentions the standard tourist visa of 60 days, which can be extended once for an additional 30 days, as well as suggestions for a 6-month multiple entry tourist visa or the Non-O and Non-OA visas for those over 50.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
Or you can get six month multiple entry tourist visa which allows you 60 days at a time with the ability to ext by 30 days when you get close to end of 60 days. Or you could look into over 50 visas NonO or nonOA.

Hi Betsy, thatβs what I do. Get the 60 day from a consulate before your trip, then extend 30 days when you are there. π
