Hello everyone! Does anyone here have any experience converting a tourist visa into a Non-b in Chiang Mai? Do you need to hand in your passport with the other documentation for those 21 days or can you take it there afterwards to get the visa stamp?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To convert a tourist visa to a Non-Immigrant B visa in Chiang Mai, you need to submit your passport along with other required documents. Although normally you may get your passport back shortly (within 1-2 days), Chiang Mai requires you to have at least 21 days left on your current visa for the application process, which takes about 14 days. It's important to have a job offer and necessary documentation from your employer. The fee for a 90-day Non-Immigrant B visa issued in-country is typically 2000 baht.

Sorry to the O/P, I inadvertently hi-jacked the thread. I deleted the comments that had no relevance to the original question.

Sorry about that.

Let's stay on topic people. If you have other questions not related to getting a Non B visa in Chiang Mai post your own thread.

I was under the impression the non B was issued by a Thai consulate (outside Thailand of course) on production of proof of work being offered which involves lots of documents. What do you mean by tourist visa? I think you need Non O to convert. Things may have changed over the last few days!

@Tony *******
the price of ALL 90 day Non-Immigrant Type visas issued inside the country is 2000baht. It is not uncommon to get a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type visa issued inside the country from a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry.

Most immigration offices require 15 days left on your current stamp (because the application goes under consideration for 14 days before you go back and get the Non-Immigrant Type visa inked into your passport) BUT Chiang Mai requires at least 21 days left on your current stamp.

Here's some in-country Non-Immigrant visas

Can you quote the source and the price cos up until now you had to leave the country (for the initial visa that is) as well as being sponsored? We are talking non imm B with a view to working I assume.

You can convert a tourist visa to a Non Imm B visa at your local immigration office along with all the required documents from your employer without leaving Thailand

Immigration normally does not keep original passport more than 1 or 2 days

You hand in all the documents and your passport with minimum 21 days of stay left on your permitted to stay date, your application goes under consideration, but you get your passport back, and after the 21 days you get the Non Immigrant B stamped in your passport.
