Hello all. I would like to ask you about a work visa (I think it is the non-immigrant B visa to be coupled with a work permit).

Do I have to apply for it in the country I currently live in and get it before leaving to Thailand?

Another question is: do you know what kind of documentation is required from me and from the company I will work for?

I did some research, but I would like to have some advice from people that went through the process, in order to get accurate indication during these times.

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The non-immigrant B visa, necessary for employment in Thailand, should typically be applied for in your home country. Obtaining it within Thailand is challenging. It's crucial to confirm with the employing company about the specific documentation required, as requirements can vary between consulates.

You *should* apply for it in the country you live it. It is difficult to get a non-B inside Thailand.

The company should know what documents are needed; each consulate has different requirements.

What makes it difficult to get the non-B within the country?

The company applies to Labour Dept for you. They then supply a from from them to you along with other info and signed documents. If all supplied correctly it is pretty straightforward.

Our HR does it all but some companies are small or do not have experience. They often engage an agent in that case. As I said if all correct paperwork supplied to you it is a breeze. I just renewed my Visa Extension and WP for 2 years. Took me 20 mins at the office as HR accompanied me with all the papers.
