I am concerned about a friend who arrived in Thailand from England on a visa on arrival March 8th. Two days later, he fell and injured his leg. He has been bed ridden in a hotel since then. He hasnโ€™t contacted Immigration. Any advice on how he should proceed would be welcome. What are the ramifications of this situation? Thanks ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

TLDR : Answer Summary
The friend's situation involves a visa on arrival and a potential overstay due to injury. He should contact his hotel for assistance in reaching a hospital and inquire about immigration issues there. Failing to report to Immigration could lead to a fine of 500 THB per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 THB. It's crucial to see Immigrations officials proactively to mitigate any problems.

Sadly he will be at the mercy of the IO he is front of and he will have to be prepared to leave the country.

He will have to pay the fine and hope that when he tries to enter next time there is no issue.

No one can guarantee that.

He should ask the hotel to help him get to a hospital. Then at hospital get them to help him with immigration stuff. It's better if he sees them first before they catch him on overstay. Go to a government hospital for lower costs.

It is to late, he is already on overstay. Hospital can not lower the fine at Immigration.

they can't lower fine but at least he can have proof of why he can't go home (ie, getting medical treatment). It's just a suggestion.

isn't gonna help him one bit if he's not ready to pay the fine and leave ๐Ÿ™ you do all that BEFORE you run on overstay (medical extension, other type of extension etc)

@Kari *******
Medical Extensions can only be applied BEFORE people get on overstay, If already on overstay they are to late and no extensions will be given.

You friend arrived without any visa and used the 30 day Visa Exempt Scheme.

If he did not contact Immigration during his stay, he will be in overstay and face a 500 thb a day fine with maximum 20.000 Thb. Depending on reporting himself at airport Immigration or beeing caught there are other issues to solve.

overstay of less than 90 days is no ban or has that been changed?

Just read. It depends on how he met authorities
