Hi everyone!

I’ve been in this group for a while but still haven’t found a clear answer to this question: *What should we write in the “passport place of issue” field?*

Some people say we must write exactly what’s written in the passport, while others say just write the country. I’m really confused.

In my case, the place of issue in my passport is a string of numbers and letters in Russian. Even if I try to copy them, the application doesn’t allow Cyrillic characters, so it won’t match what’s written in the document anyway.

If you’ve applied recently, could you please clarify what you wrote in this field? Thank you so much in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community provides mixed advice on what to write in the 'passport place of issue' field for visa applications. Some suggest entering exactly what is written in the passport, while others recommend writing only the country of issuance, especially if the passport contains a string of characters that cannot be entered in the application. Various experiences indicate that using the correct country name leads to successful applications, with some users sharing that their applications were rejected when they included incorrect or complicated names related to issuing authorities.

I believe the safest option is adding your country. I had the same doubt, and from what I checked nobody that added their own country had issues, but from the ones that had the issue, all added something different than their own country.

Just write the city and country that your passport was issued

My passport says United States Department of State but I just put United States and was approved.

often it wont say place of issue it will say issuing authority this is not what you add. then the only area listed on the bio page will be probably your country name at the top. Thats what mine had so i put my own country and it was accepted

ALWAYS USE THE COUNTRY OF ISSUANCE THERE even if your passport states it was a consulate/embassy abroad. I had someone verify this at the hanoi embassy . As there were many different stories as of what to put from different people. They confirmed me before i submitted my application. Cannot confirm at other posts . If your passport reads PLACE OF ISSUANCE US EMBASSY BANGKOK PUT “ UNITED STATES “ or your application will be rejected as soon as the pending document check mark. I saw at least 10 applications that were rejected during my time in HANOI. For this im

In your case I would "transliterate" what is written in the passport. In general the rule is that you write exactly what is written in that field.

However in another thread "someone" (not the affected person) mentioned that "someone else" got rejected when he wrote his city name. And that he was suppsoed to simply write the land of origin. However: that is just someone who wrote something about someone else ...

You must inform the name of your country, in this case it would be Russia

mine says MVD and numbers, did you type FMS when applying for the visa?

I'm pretty sure I did just write FMS followed by the numbers and got granted the visa. (It was like a month ago, so I'm second guessing myself now haha). You can also email/text the embassy you're applying to directly and double check with them.

Oh, then that's another case yes. For passports with Latin letters only it works. I did it both for my DTV and my mother's TR visa applications, both granted.

Mine said SEOUL and hers said a combination of letters and numbers like BCR316, for example.

In your case, I would just enter the name of the country. There was a report of someone whose issuing authority was something like "KX007FFWX", they entered this in the place of issue field, and the application was canceled.
