What should I write in the "place of issue" field of my passport when applying through the French Embassy in Paris?

I have a question for those who applied through the French Embassy in Paris.

What did you write in the "place of issue" field of your passport?

I know this has been debated for months. Some people recommend writing exactly what’s printed on the passport, but I’ve also heard of applications being denied for that and advised instead to write the country name. What’s the right approach? The embassy is unreachable by phone and doesn’t respond to emails.
