I was told by my embassy in order to apply for STV I just had to mark my trip as 90 days. But I only received a regular tourist visa and Im set to fly out next week. Is it worth trying to apply for the STV and changing my plane ticket? Its very confusing how to even get the STV.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user was confused about whether to apply for the Short Term Visa (STV) after receiving a regular tourist visa for a 90-day trip. Commentary suggests relief at not getting the STV due to numerous complaints about its complexity and issues with the extension process. Various suggestions point towards whether the user actually needs the STV, indicating that the regular tourist visa (TR) could be sufficient.

Abigail, as Tod has pointed out, thank your fairy godmother for getting you the TR instead of the impotent STV!

I don't know where you applied for your visa
@Abi****
, BUT to get an STV is a lot more involved than just saying you're going to be here more than 90 days.

Here's the link to the thai consulate in Los Angeles that lists the requirements to apply for an STV.

i did all that. But they told me i had to apply online through Thailand where there was no STV option then send in my passport to the embassy. When I emailed asking about that. They just told me to put i was staying for 90 days.

Were you charged for the STV or just the regular tourist visa?

I'd say thank your lucky stars that you didn't get that STV. (There are almost nothing but complaints about the visa, the extension process and almost everything to do with it)

Tod Daniels. The last date to apply for extension is 30 September, which effectively means the last STV holder will be leaving December 29

Ciaran McNeill anyone entering after Jul 3 can only get the 90 day entry stamp and the program is set to expire in Sept this year I believe

charged for the regular. Really? It does seem like a pain in the ass and I may get lucky if they decide to extend the covid extensions to stay.

If your trip truly is only 90 days then the tourist visa is fine, 60+30

Really? Sad that you think having Covid extensions is "lucky". The only reason they may continue is if the Covid situation does not get better.Personally I would not call that lucky.

I wanted to potentially stay for longer.
