What are the differences between the Tourist Visa (STV) and Tourist Visa (TR) for Thailand, and how should I manage my Thailand Pass and Visa application?

Hi Everyone!

I've been reading through all the E-Visa advice which has been super super helpful!..

My flight is on 14th April, and after much stress I have decided to leave my E-Visa application and just sort my Thailand Test & Go Pass - I'm nervous that if I submit a Visa application now I won't have enough time for the Thailand Pass to be approved before I fly on 14th April.

One final thing ... I was looking at getting the 60 day pass ... on the Visa application, is this the Tourist Visa (STV) or the Tourist Visa (TR)? I can't tell what the difference is and was having trouble with all those supporting documents q's as well.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarity on the distinction between the 60-day Tourist Visa (TR) and the Special Tourist Visa (STV) while preparing for a flight to Thailand on April 14. They express concern over the timely approval of their Visa application compared to securing a Thailand Test & Go Pass. Responses indicate that TR is generally faster to acquire and that both applications can be submitted independently, with various tips shared about ensuring smooth processing.

I think this site should answer several of your questions.

I found ThaiPass to be a huge pain in the ass. Other group members had better experiences, seems to be a crap-shoot.

I would recommend asking the group for a recommendation of how to book and with who to book your hotel and tests. I think it maybe helpful to use a good hotel. Another member said they used a service to handle ThaiPass, if I had to do it again I would strongly consider paying a little extra to somebody to deal with the stress.

Best of luck

I did TP one afternoon and evisa next afternoon, one is not dependent on the other. Evisa done on Fri afternoon and received back Mon morning, so approval can be got over the weekend too.

Why not do your Thailand Pass (TP) and E visa at the same time and if your visa doesn’t come through in time for your departure you can still have 60 days in Thailand

What country are you from? Check this list.

If your country is on this list then you can do a visa on arrival. Do your Thai pass now

UK!! I can use Visa Waiver easily for 30 days but might submit and hope it goes through. Doing test and go over the next couple of days.. Need insurance certificate and accommodation on day 5 to sort

@Margot *********
you no longer need accommodation on day 5. The test is a self administered ATK ( lateral flow) test. No need to be in a hotel to do it.

thanks Stuart! I had read that in the last couple of days. Visa submitted!!!! 🤞🏼🤞🏼 Everything goes through fine, and just waiting on certificate from insurance company to finish my documentation for Thailand Pass 💫

The documents you need for test and go is your passport, vaccination certificate, prrof of booking and payment for 1st and 1 night only in an approved hotel, insurance certificate and PCR test no older than 72 hours.

@Tony ***********
the PCR requirement is not needed for a ThailandPass. It is for your flight (or won’t be after April 1st) but nothing to do with the application for ThailandPass.

ThailandPass and any visa you may apply for are entirely separate. You may not need a visa, you do need the ThailandPass.

STV is a completely different ball game to the normal 60 day tourist visa. For that you need insurance, fully paid for accommodation for the 90 days and all sorts of stuff. It works for some peoples needs but very few.

A 60 day TR visa should only take a day or so for approval using the evisa system.

TR is the tourist visa really easy to obtain got mine back within 48hours seems daunting but go for it you will be fine
