Apologies in advance if this question has already been asked and answered:

I am wondering if anyone knows the maximum number of days one can come to Thailand on a visa exemption per year. I am hearing some unsettling stories lately so I just want to confirm if there is a limit or if it's haphazardly decided upon entry.

Thanks :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is no official legal limit to the number of days one can stay in Thailand on a visa exemption, though practical limits may apply based on entry frequency. Travelers can generally enter twice by land and have unlimited air entries. However, those making multiple entries within a year may be questioned by immigration officials and could be required to show proof of funds, a local address, and a departure ticket. Stories suggest that repeated entries may lead to denies at certain airports, particularly if there are few weeks between visits.

Also as you asked in March 2019 about many visits this year already to Thailand...

Best to be prepared to be asked.

Daniele Pestilli choose your border crossing carefully. But by land each calendar year...can get two visa exempt 30 days entries plus 30 days extension is possible.

Oh so it's 4 months per calendar year? That makes things slightly better. Thanks!

Thank you. Yes I'm at 4 this year so I'm guessing I won't be back for at least 8 months

A friend of mine did it for years until he was told by immigration to get a proper visa. We're both married to Thais.

Not back to back there is always a 2 month gap when I'm working.

but are yours like his? Essentially back to back?

No limit...BUT if you have a history of many entries into Thailand...be prepared if questioned to show 20,000 Thai baht or its equal in CASH...your initial address of stay and TICKET LEAVING Thailand within the allotted permission to stay. Good Luck. The decision to allow entry rests with the Immigration Officer.

Officially: twice by land, unlimited by air.

In the real world: if you have a couple or three stamps in the year they are denying entry specially at BKK and DMG airports (and maybe Phuket too)

If you want to play the game, be sure you can go to any other place instead, in case of being denied.

Thanks. This is what I have heard as well, 90-120 days a year seems to be the new limit.
