Hi,

I have been married to a thai for 23 years and travelled to Thailand numerous times. Always for just 28 days, except for one time I had a 90 days visa. We plan to go next time whenever Thaiair starts to fly from Copenhagen again. We plan to stay for 60 days because we haven't been there for 1½ year now and we are insured by Mastercard for 60 days. I am puzzled about the TM6 in connection with getting a 30 day extension (a week or two before the first 28 days have gone) and the buying a two-way ticket before leaving Denmark. I have always filled out both part of the TM6, because I thought I should - assumably as a proof of my return. When I now read that as a short term or tourist guest I must also fill the deperture part of the TM6. My question is: Can I buy a return airlineticket for a 60 days stay and get into Thailand on a visa exemption? If not what situation is everybody else in the forum talking about when asking about 30 days extension? Hope someone can fill me in.😳

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired whether they can enter Thailand on a visa exemption with a return flight that aligns with a 60-day stay, considering their frequent trips and marriage to a Thai citizen. Comments clarified the requirements for filling out the TM6 card, how to apply for a 30-day extension, and the necessity for documenting onward travel, particularly focusing on the need for a return ticket when entering on a visa-exempt status.

As things currently stand, you will need to show a flight out of Thailand on, or before, the date you will get stamped in for in order to get the CoE (without which you will not get on the plane). Now, if you're going to stay longer than that then you have a couple of options; Buy a flexible ticket where you can change the return date easily. Buy a 'throwaway' ticket out of Thailand on the date needed and then buy your return when you know your return date.

I think where you're going to have problems "entering the country on a 45 day visa exempt entry" IS getting the Certificate of Entry from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office without showing onward travel within the days you're going to be stamped in for when you arrive (they don't care at all how many days you MIGHT get an extension for, they care how many days you get stamped in for using the entry method you choose).

as a rule to get a Certificate of Entry Approved by the MFA you need to show onward traveling within the days you're stamping in for (so in your case IF you're entering visa exempt within 45 days)

About the departure card, you don't have to fill it upon your arrival Thailand as people mentioned above. You may enter Thailand on visa-exempt a return ticket in 60days.

For the second question, you may be asking about how other people handle the departure flight when talking about an extension. Many people here with these type of ticket (and not with a fixed round trip ticket):

- a round trip ticket with a changeable return flight

- open ticket (which you pay first for return and book a seat later)

- one-way ticket (mostly on TR - pre-Covid) and buy a return (or leaving Thailand) ticket later

You mentioned MasterCard insurance, you'll need to make sure it covers a minimum 100,000 USD covid coverage and both these need to be stipulated on the policy you'll print out for the length you plan to be stamped in for.

Fill in the arrival and just the basics on the departure. If you were to change to stay your extension of stay to say a retirement option then you could be using the same TM6 in 20 years time if you don't leave Thailand.

I think if you choose visa exempt entry the consulate might require a flight out in 45 days. If you buy a visa for 60 days then you can have your flight out booked for 59 or 60 days without needing an extension and changing your departure flight date.

You can apply for a 60 day extension as you are married to a thai

and you can have one family visit per entry

This post is a little bit worded strangely, but I'll try to answer it.

The TM6 is the arrival/departure card. There are two parts to the card - the arrival, and the departure.

A person must fill out the arrival part of the card when they arrive. The immigration officer on duty will keep the arrival part of the card, and staple the departure card in your passport (usually). You will fill out the departure card when you leave Thailand.

The immigration office doesn't care what you write on the departure card, what they care about is the barcode on the bottom of the departure card. This barcode is used to track a person electronically.

To get a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, you need the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and ant to use their special forms)

4. 2x passport pictures

5. 1,900 THB.

A ticket home is NOT required.

I hope that answers the question
