Is it possible to enter Thailand on a 30-day visa while having a return flight after that period?

Hi, is it ok to land in Thailand with a normal 30 day visa but with a return flight that is after the 30 day duration? Will we encounter any issues at immigration? We are prepared to apply for the 60 day tourist visa but since we are short on time, is it ok to do so after clearing quarantine in BKK? Thank you all in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Entering Thailand on a 30-day Visa Exempt Entry with a return flight scheduled after the 30-day period could pose challenges. While immigration may not strictly enforce departure ticket requirements, airlines might deny boarding if your return flight exceeds the allowed stay. It is advisable to book a changeable return ticket within the 30-day period or secure a 60-day tourist visa prior to arrival.

Time to close it down before more people going to contribute. I never got arrested for burglary or never stopped for not wearing a helmet in Thailand, but that does not mean everybody else can break in or forget their helmet.

It is stil against the law and your own decision to make.

Happy new year to everybody and take care.

You will get trouble more at your airline check-in than Thai immigration as long as you got Thailand Pass.

Do they really check if you have the return flight now ? They never asked me ...

You might not be allowed to board your flight because your return flight is not within the 30-day period of stay the Visa Exempt stamp offers. Best to have a return flight booked within 30 days that you can change after arrival. Or get a tourist visa before coming.

Stock answer as asked many times here.

If you are entering on a long term visa, like a Non O or Non OA or Thailand Elite you do not need an onward flight out from Thailand.

If on a visa exempt entry or tourist visa you need to have a flight ticket out of Thailand within the amount of days that your initial entry allows, regardless that you can get an extension in country. It doesn’t need to be a return ticket, any ticket out of Thailand will suffice.

In theory immigration can deny you entry if you don’t but they rarely ever would, because they know you can get an extension.

Almost always the hang up will be when you try to board your plane. Many airlines will not allow you to board without an onward ticket within the number of days.

Some will let you. Many won’t. You probably don’t want to be the one scrambling to buy an onward ticket at the check in desk. Best option is a changeable ticket, and just change the date when you’re here.

Alternatively you can Google “onward flight ticket” and you’ll find a plethora of companies willing to sell you one for around $10.

You’ll probably get a number of replies saying “I managed to enter with no problem, therefore you won’t have one either.” Well you won’t find out which way it’ll go until you get to the check in desk.

it is called a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry and all know this can be extended once with another 30 days based on tourism.

If it will be an issue is something we can not guarantee, best is to be safe and apply for the Single Entry Tourist Visa and get the 60 days on entry.
