What should I expect during the home visit for my 90-day Non-O visa application based on retirement in Thailand?

After a long day at CW immigration I am on my way to receiving a 90 day non-o visa based on retirement whilst being on amnesty from a 60 day tourist visa.

I filled out a TM.86 form hoping to receive a hard stamp that would allow me to proceed to a 90 day non-o Visa.

I queued at counter C1 and was told I didn't have all the requirements so I had to go and come back and queue again.

The additional requirements were to hand draw a map of my condo location, bring a copy of the past 3 receipts of rental payment and a foreign transfer letter from my bank

I was previously told by my local branch that a form was not available to show my 800k Baht foreign transfer and went to CW hoping the bank book FTT code was proof however it wasn't. A quick walk downstairs to Bangkok bank and I received 2 forms free of charge.

I went back to queue at Counter C1, they accepted my documents then was told to skip the queue and goto L1 with a new form and passport to get a hard stamp and then come back and wait outside C1 for the IO. After filling out more forms and quite a few more signatures later I received a stamped form and told to come back on the 24th to get my passport stamped.

I am also required to wait for a call from immigration police 'At any time' who will be visiting me at my condo to take a photo of me inside. Quite over the top and belittling to be honest considering I have a TM30 filed, lease agreement etc however beggars can't be choosers.

Has anyone been through this process? I'd like to know what to expect.

I was also advised that Friday is the last day that this process will be allowed so be quick if this is what your looking for.

Also I had an Australian embassy extension letter on hand however it is was not required.

Remember ANYONE in BANGKOK applying for an in country Non-Imm visa of ANY TYPE at section C-1 has to do it by today (Friday Sept 11).

That's because you need at least 15 days left on amnesty to do it because of the 14 day under consideration period..

Sounds like it was a straightforward 90 day Non-Imm Type O in country visa application issued based on the O/P being over 50 (retirement).

They started doing in home visits for almost ALL the visas issued from Section C-1 at Chaengwattana (the section that issues in country Non-Imm visas) a good while back.

So while it's anecdotally interesting that some people didn't get the visits when they applied for their Non-Imm visa it doesn't mean anything.

I also submitted app for retirement extension today. I had 30 day visa exempt stamp in March - no extension- then on amnesty. My visit went better than yours, although waited 4 hours to get to desk C1. They did not mention a home visit but did ask for my phone number. I'm due to go back on the 25th for result. No stamps in passport today, just a receipt that looks like the one you posted.

you couldn't have submitted an "application for a retirement extension" if you entered on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp at section C-1. That section ONLY issues in country 90 day Non-Imm visas and I believe that is what you applied for.

You will go back on the date you got stamped for "return for results" on the blue green receipt and they will issue you an in country Non-O visa and a new 90 day entry stamp..

THEN after that runs down to 45 days or less left on it you will apply for your year extension.

Section 1.2 says applying for non-immigrant visa.

@Jack *****
right and what you'll get is a Non-Immigrant Type O visa and a new 90 day entry stamp when you go back.

Thanks Jack. Yeah its a worry that even though we tick all the boxes we're still in limbo. But then again they are protecting the country and possible fake visas so I'm more than willing to comply and finally relax a little. Good luck and please update for everyone, cheers

I just received some new information from a guy doing the same 90 day non-o application based on retirement. He was visited today 3 business days after his application. They called the day before then while visiting they looked at his lease agreement, bank book, passport, had him fill out some more forms and took a photo of him holding them all standing next to the immigration officer. Then they called his landlord, all done in 30 minutes. He said they were all quite pleasant.

Immigration called in to my condo today, They said they would call when they were on their way, they called when they were downstairs. My wife drove back from work within 10 minutes though. We (Me and the wife) needed a witness also. Here for about 15 minutes, take a few photos, couple of questions and that was it. Pretty simple, Seemed quite nice also :)

I’ve never had a home visit for my Extensions Of Stay for 3 Retirement stamps in BKK or even when I converted to Marriage from retirement which they said they would do a home visit but never happened. And got my stamp and year for marriage stamp. All done at CW immigration. Wouldn’t worry about the visit to much it’ll either happen or not the have your email and phone Number they not lightly to turn up without informing you. Because that would most probably a complete waste of time.

You need to be over 50 for retirement :-(

That’s normal procedure at Samut Prakan. Every year I see the same lady for extension based on wife. Every year they come out to the house. Same officers, wife talks to them. They talk to neighbour a then off

@Tony ******
Not normal for a retirement visa, but whatever they need I guess.

if any of your neighbors are Thai and you kinda know them, during the immigration visit the IO might ask you to find someone who will vouch you live there or knows you. I know it's stupid but I have heard of this on occasion. Be prepared to take pictures of you pointing at everything under the sun.

Thanks Tony. Do they call and arrange a day and time? I just dont want to be out and miss their visit. cheers

I’m surprised they call. They want to surprise you. I was at a Xmas show one year and they turned up then Calle to ask where I was. They spoke to the neighbours

Why is it belittling to follow a process to get a visa to have the privilege of staying in Thailand? I hope they don't ask for tea money when they visit. Not sure if that happens much. Good luck.
