What should I do about the Thai consulate's accommodation requirement for a TR single entry visa application?

Hi. I'm helping my cousin apply for her TR single entry visa and we are stuck on the accommodation requirement. She plans to stay in Thailand for 60 days.

I've booked 6 nights in Bangkok for her but it seems that is not enough for the Los Angeles Thai consulate. I received an email asking for accommodations for the whole 60 days. I even replied back explaining that my cousin plans to travel around the country and so it would be difficult to know her exact itinerary in advance, but they still insist on addresses and length of stay for the whole trip.

I've applied for TR single entry visa in the past and never encounter this before, so I'm not sure how best to proceed.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is assisting a cousin with TR single entry visa application but is struggling to meet the Thai consulate's requirement for full accommodation details for a 60-day stay. Despite explaining an itinerary involving travel within Thailand, the consulate insists on specific addresses and length of stay for the entire duration. Various community comments suggest potential solutions such as booking accommodations with free cancellation or creating dummy bookings to satisfy the requirements. Some users recommend submitting a simple itinerary with hotel names instead of actual bookings, indicating frustrations with the process and questioning its impact on tourism.

Jesus, just get to the payment page of a booking and screenshot it and send it to them. Or book something with free cancelation.

You made the story too complex. Just listing a few hotels you see on websites = fine. You can even book and cancel at no cost widely at the moment. Your story = headache for the person at the other end when all they wanted to do is tick a box.

These stories makes a person wonder if the actual want long stay tourists? Tourists travel about and don't always know where your going? Often traveling to places recommended by other travelers.

oh its just the Thai admin mindset. All good don’t worry. Smile and wave.

Going to the embassy and chatting and wai ing and being charming works a treat too.

We can’t do visa online in Australia or HKG.

As someone said just book accommodation with free cancellation policy then cancel it when you have visa,or is it possible to apply for visa from another consulate who apply the rules differently

Yes submit your 6 nite booking then make a bogus booking for the remaining 54 nights. You can do this on Agoda as a 'reserve' option without paying and then cancel the booking once you get into the country/get your visa.

We did a rough itinerary and booked fully cancellable hotels via the Hilton website. Submitted everything with a paper saying what we were going to visit in each place. This was advised by an Embassy employee. 1 day later we have our 60 day visa.

You know this booking reservation copy can be an unpaid one. It can be your existing address too as a base. Govt. doesn't care where you travel to as long as there's an address where they can find you.

How many people hit bumps like this when trying to come to Thailand and just say screw it, I'll go to ....? TAT has to communicate with immigration that this kind of stuff is not tourism friendly at all.

I applied for 2m tourist visa in Bulgaria 3 months ago, was requested for bank statement, employer's letter, insuarance, prepaid tickets + return and rental's contract. Processing time was 3 weeks. Before covid the same visa was issued just for 5 min and the only requirement was prebooked(not paid) tickets. I would never come on holiday to Thailand if I didn't planned to stay longer and my wife wasn't here...

Exactly my point. You went through the ordeal because you had to. If you were a casual tourist, you'd look for country with an easier process.

I filed online. I gave them the first hotel I was staying at. I was there 4 weeks.

totally agree and it worked everywhere else too than Thailand the same process. I just cancel after I get the visa. And never had an issue.

Thanks for the reply guys. This is the email I received.

"Please provide your hotel confirmation and/or accommodation arrangements for your stay from September 11 to November 7,2022 (must show your name, address, length of stay, etc).

After I explained to them the situation and send the 6 nights hotel booking confirmation in Bangkok, they still reply:

"Please submit on letter from with your details, period of stay and address."

They didn't say anything about fully paid booking so I guess I will have to book some random hotels for the whole trip and cancel once we get her visa.

I read that as you only need to give an itinerary, hotel names and duration of stays. I don’t think you actually need to make bookings. Just my view.

Without knowing exactly what they have asked for, you could try just giving the names of hotels in plausible places. The only time I have ever had to show an actual booking was during the height of Covid, otherwise a hotel name and address was sufficient.

Did they ask for 60 days fully paid accomodation along with the tax ID of the owner or landlord? That's the one that's really difficult to bypass.

If they didn't ask for that, just book something for 60 days on Agoda with free cancellation and send it in then cancel.

If they did ask for that, find the cheapest hostel possible that might be like $3 per night and make a 60 day booking after getting in contact with them for the receipt with the tax ID. Send that and count it as a useless wasted expense.
