TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion addresses concerns about needing a hotel booking when entering Thailand on a 60-day visa exempt. Many users report that immigration rarely asks for hotel bookings, though it's suggested to have some form of proof of accommodation, such as a temporary booking or a low-cost reservation that can be canceled. A few advise having sufficient funds and an onward ticket as they are more commonly checked. Overall, while having a booking isn't strictly necessary, it may provide peace of mind.

Just use booking.com look for hotel with pay on arrival and cancel on the day..no problems

@Steve *****
thank you steve! Is this for Uk? Cos I looked on the website and it didn’t give it as an option! I was planning on doing 90 days this winter- and was wondering about the return flight ticket for the 60 day application- if that’s gone away, 60’day visa exempt and then the 30 day extension- life is easy! 👍🏼

Yes only problem i can see, is the airlines often want to see an onward ticket out within the visa exempt IE 60 days as extension never promised.

@Steve *****
I could have a flight to Philippines or Malaysia booked for day 60 that I cancel when I get extension on day 45?

check in, ive been asked many times of late.

@Steve *****
alternatively- I have return flight booked for day 60 then ‘move’ it to 90 once I have extension! Or- I can literally do the ‘visa run’ on day 60 anyway, and take the kids for a Quick Look somewhere!
Tom **********
@Steve *****
do you know what the return is on the 60’day?

Interestingly I arrived into DMK last night and immigration queue was the quickest I have ever seen!

Not sure if they have been instructed to speed things up since change of regs and could just be coincidence.

I was never asked for hotel booking either. I think the type of questions depends on the climate in the country. In January a border agent was grilling me for "staying long" (no overstaying, just extending my visa) and I had to convince him to let me in. In April they were giving me a hard time because I didn't have an onward ticket. Three days ago they let me in, no questions asked, and gave me 60 days on the stamp. 🤷‍♂️

Never been asked about hotel bookings in multiple visits over 20+ years.

Nothing is usually a problem unless they have a reason to look or get suspicious..

If you are just another genuine tourist they won't care..

You're going to arrive in Thailand with nowhere to stay? That seems like a problem if you ask me. But the only time immigration would ever ask is if they're already looking for a reason to deny you entry.
