Just got back from Nakhon Sawan immigration and 30th November stamp refused.

I had been on Amnesty since July previously had Thailand Elite visa. Eventually got my Embassy Letter requesting a Non O for retirement as a long stay resident of Thailand.

A processing stamp was put in my passport on 3rd September until 17th September.

Told to come back on 17th to get stamped in until 26th October which I did. New Amnesty announced that this stamp would get me until 30th November just need to go in and update at no charge.

Told today that is only if your on a processing stamp and need to go back before the current amnesty ends to get another 60 days until 30th December and no embassy letter will be required on this occasion.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user reports a refusal for a visa stamp extension at Nakhon Sawan immigration, after previously being on Amnesty since July and having applied for a Non-O visa for retirement. After receiving processing stamps, they were informed they needed to handle their extension differently due to new amnesty rules. The comments provide additional personal experiences related to similar visa situations and interactions with immigration officers, indicating inconsistency and varying experiences among expats.

I have overheard (a year ago) a conversation with a senior IO with an expat. Apparently he had an O Visa before and the IO was hassling him about coming in on a Tourist Visa this time.

I got the Impression that if you have shelled out money before, they don't like you to come in on a cheaper visa.

In this guy's case (the one I overheard) maybe they thought he was living in Thailand before and would still be living in Thailand on a Tourist Visa.

Or maybe it was about less money.

Was on Samui today to take a friend with same situation to immigration there. Was amnesty. Then embassy letter to extend to Oct 26. Stamp was for Oct 11. Was initially refused the Nov 30 stamp (told to return before end Oct) but long conversation and 90 minute wait resulted in stamp to Nov 30.

it was irritating for sure as we had called beforehand and also called the national hotline. Both said no problem. Then we arrive - and they said it was not possible. Finally relented and Nov 30 affixed. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
