Hi, sorry if this has been asked before:

🎊UPDATE: GOT OUR VISAS AT 4PM TODAY!🎊🎊

-They asked in the application what date we are flying out, obviously we booked and paid for our flights,

-They asked in application for our hotel details, this is also booked and paid for.

-We have called the numbers online for Canberra Embassy 10 times and no one ever answered the phone, we have left two voicemails and it says the inbox is full. I have emailed them 3 times and they have never relied.

We fly out Monday the 26th which is 5 business days away.

I can’t get a refund on flights, we have sold everything, cars and house, and the accomodation is costing a fortune.

We haven’t been able to apply for my daughter’s visa as I need mine approved first to add the visa number to her application.

I’m lost for what to do, but I am also wanting to risk flying in on visa exempt and then fly out once it’s approved, as I have seen people do.

The reviews online about the Thai embassy in Australia is horrible and so far they have 1 Star from everyone.
Answer summary

They expressed concerns about delayed communication from the embassy, challenges faced while trying to apply for their daughter's visa, and considered traveling to Thailand on a visa-exempt entry while waiting for their Direct Visa (DTV) approval. Comments from the community included suggestions to contact the embassy via social media for faster responses, share experiences regarding processing times for visa applications, and tips for managing travel plans while dealing with visa delays.

I am sorry you are in this stressful spot this happens a lot with Canberra embassy and you are not alone.

If you fly Monday twenty sixth on visa exempt you can enter Thailand for sixty days as tourist without visa. Many do this while DTV is still processing but there is small risk. Your DTV if approved while you are inside Thailand may need you to exit and re enter to activate it or some consulates cancel if you are already in country. Best is to keep proof that you applied before travel and do not overstay visa exempt.

For urgent help try email consular dot Canberra at mfa dot go dot th and also message Thai MFA Facebook page with your reference number. If possible go to embassy in person early morning Monday before flight with printed application and ask for urgent check. Some got approval same day after in person visit.

For backup plan for family entry on visa exempt and how to add daughter later you can read Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon. It has steps for switching from visa exempt to DTV and how to avoid losing flights when embassy is slow.

With my experience, DTV application applying from Canberra took around 5-6 weeks after submission. There is no way to expedite the visa peocessing. If you enter Thailand while your DTV is still in process. The embassy will reject or ask you return to Australia so they continue processing. They are connct eith Thai immigration and can tracks any foreigners entering and exit Thailand

As mentioned, try reaching out through social media. Embassies can take weeks to issue visas so unfortunately it may take some time. I think it would have been better to wait for your visa approval before selling everything, especially when you have a dependent to consider. Hopefully, you can get everything sorted out soon.

it was not possible to wait, as the market was changing and we had to sell. The rental market is also bad, so not possible to get such a short lease

you don't even know if they'll approve or reject so why make non refundable bookings? Especially since you also need double the time for both the primary and dependent applications. In this type of situation it's more logical to make fully refundable bookings and then if you can't go or find a cheaper price after approval, you get your money back.

What kind of accomodation are you staying in now? You could always find cheap rooms in hostels and guesthouses outside the city if you book the entire room for the family. You only have to share the facilities with other guests. If you sold all your stuff assuming you only have a few bags, it should be easy to move around to cheap accommodation. You don't need to rent a house. You could also get a small cabin room at holiday parks or campgrounds.

booking com and agoda have fully refundable bookings and some listings don't even need prepayment. Some even can be booked up to 6 months long if you need it for the application. Several airlines flying from Australia offer fully refundable tickets.

Well since they want proof of bookings and flights this is why I had to book. Hotels don’t refund. And I’ve checked those conditions for my bookings online.

I will continue my plans. Thanks

Have you contacted them via their social media? That sometimes gets a quicker response than emails.
