I am currently in bkk on a 60 visa exempt entry. I am planning on flying to Malaysia and applying for multi entry visa. This is my way of navigating visa runs without any stress. I plan to leave on a Wednesday and come to bkkk back on Wednesday, is that enough to to apply for online abd receive the visa? Or do I need to stay in Malaysia longer?

Also, will this successful at navigating entry, I plan to split my time between countries and I don’t want any issues coming back and forth.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Bangkok on a 60-day visa exempt entry and plans to travel to Malaysia to apply for a multiple entry visa (METV). They seek confirmation on whether their travel plans—a one-week trip to Malaysia—would be sufficient to apply and receive the visa online. However, multiple comments clarify that the METV must be applied for in the applicant's home country, and applying from Malaysia as a tourist is not typically permitted unless they are a resident there. Concerns about processing times and validity of applications from non-home countries are also discussed in the comments.

It all depends on the type and purpose of the visa you are applying for. The METV must be applied for in your home country. The DTV can be applied for in most countries provided you are in the location served by the consulate you apply through and remain there until the process completes, how long it takes depends on where you apply but typically anything from 5 working days to 20 working days

For all those saying I can’t apply from a country that is not the one of my passport, can you double check this? It goes against what I’ve been reading, chatgbt, and the Thai visa website where I’m inputting this location info and it lets me begin my application. Instead of blocking me because it’s not allowed.

I wasn’t arguing, I was asking for others to simply confirm what they were saying is true BECAUSE i was getting conflicting information.. it’s called consultative decision making.. perhaps you’ve never heard of it before. But what I dont get is why your panties are in a bunch? 🤡 [ps.. this is me matching your unnecessary insulting energy]

The e-visa website has no way to know where you are a resident. And the embassy would be happy to take your money and deny your application or offer you a single entry tourist visa instead. Yes it is 100% confirmed. It has been this way for many, many years.

you CANNOT get a METV if you DO NOT have residence where you are applying from

You can only get METV when you apply and are actually in your home country ( country of your passport) and the application is online

DTV anywhere you like as long as you are in that country and stay there until approved

Not "anywhere" as there are countries where the Thai embassy only allows residents to apply there. Korea is one example. But there is no inherent restriction on the DTV that requires you to get it from where you have residence, so for any embassy that does not have that restriction you can apply there. But certain visas do have a specific restriction like the METV and the Non-OA visa.

Which multiple entry visa are you talking about?

If you meant the multiple entry tourist visa, then your plan will only work if you're Malaysian. You can only apply for the multiple entry tourist visa in your passport country, or a country you are a resident of. It's a strict rule for that type of visa.

You can ONLY apply through the Thai embassy where you are physically located. That means if you go to Malaysia you must apply through a Thai embassy in Malaysia. One of the questions on the application is "proof of current location."

That means you cannot apply for multiple entry tourist visa, unless you are physically inside of your home country, and apply through the Thai embassy in that country.

Unless you are a resident of Malaysia with proof that you are a resident there, you cannot apply for a METV there.
