What should I do if my husband's US passport has only one page left and his visa is about to expire?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Looking for recent experience -- we were just unable to renew my husband's visa because he only had one passport page left (US passport), and apparently that page is reserved for "special endoremsements." The US consulate's website says (in many places) that they will not add pages and the only solution is to renew his passport by sending it to the embassy in Bangkok, which takes 4-6 weeks. His visa expires in 2.5 weeks. Has anyone successfully gotten an emergency passport or extra pages added in this situation (recently)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice after facing issues renewing their husband's visa due to insufficient passport pages. The US consulate does not add pages and requires an in-person passport renewal, which can take 4-6 weeks. In the comments, users share personal experiences and suggest options such as applying for a new passport in person at the embassy, potentially getting an emergency passport, or returning to the US for renewal. They discuss the implications of overstay and different visa options while emphasizing the limited choices due to the impending visa expiration.

An emergency passport can be issued the next day and in some cases the same day.

I had a situation where a job offer came up but required 6 clear pages and the passport will not expire fore at least 6 months. I didn't have either. I explained this to a lady at the Bangkok consulate and she suggested an emergency passport which is good for a year. The embassy was very helpful.

How close are you to the extension expiring? I've seen reports of 3 weeks for a new US passport. He can still apply for an extension even if he goes onto overstay, he'll just have to pay the fine. It might be worth it to order the new passport immediately, and as soon as it arrives go and apply for the extension and pay the overstay fine.

Although technically feasible, this is illegal and high risk. Better to fly out and get a new passport.

I went in person to the embassy to renew my passport and got it in 5 work days. You might want to call for information.

He won't get pages added, they stopped doing that years ago. An emergency passport requires travel, they won't issue one because a Thai visa is about to expire. Only option is to apply for a new passport in the normal way and start over but also be aware he will be on overstay while waiting for the passport so he may want to go elsewhere to apply

They will if it's a country, which doesn't stamp your passport anymore and there are an increasing number of those. Try Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia if using the autogates, even Cambodia (if arriving by air).

Get the Emergency passport, travel abroad, come back with the Visa Exempt Entry, wait for your new passport and start the visa procedures all over again, starting with new Non Immigrant visa for 90 days and than the 1 year Extension of Stay

The emergency travel document is for just that - travel. You have had 49.5 weeks to plan for this, and you may find that your options are very limited. When does his passport expire?
