I have been here for 3 weeks on a DTV. I tried many banks to open an account. I have slim hopes since I mostly get a denied. What bank or what is the proper step to get a Thai banking account?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user on a DTV visa is struggling to open a Thai banking account, receiving frequent denials from various banks. Comments suggest that using an agent might help, especially given the limited options available for those on certain visa types like the DTV. Some commenters highlight that tourists should generally not be able to open accounts, while others mention specific locations and agents that could facilitate the process.

So basically anyone with a British passport entry to Thailand on visa exempt entry are not permitted to open a bank account even at the Bangkok bank. Am I correct?

Because of all the ghosts accounts you might have a problem opening one right now with an agent but I’ve always heard about 5000 baht

Go to Pattaya and pay an agent. Probably your cheapest option.

If it’s a DTV for soft power then there’s a slim chance. If it’s for remote work then pretty much no chance unless you use an agent.

4-5,000 baht. Though I've heard the prices have gone up since the Pattaya problems, as the agents have had to make new bank contacts.

They ask you. No idea the reasoning behind it. Just seen posts saying as such.

oh really. It just would make sense to say its for soft power then as the visa itself doesn’t tell which category it is for 😅
